Mighty Just got Mightier

When “Mighty Fin” was originally released on the iPad, the only real concerns were the monotonous in-game tunes. With its current update, not only has Launching Pad games added new music for each level, they’ve added eight completely new levels, which are much more challenging than the original ones, as well as new unlockables.

The end result is one of the most simple and addictive games on the console.

Overall, it’s a well-rounded gem.

It’s quite a change to play this title with the volume on the entire time, with no fear of getting annoyed by the audio. Beforehand, the sound effects were pretty much the thing that stood out the most during gameplay. Considering the game is centered around collecting coins and a sound effect is played every time one is picked up, things got annoying rather quickly. As it was, the game was in need of a complete audio overhaul, one that suited and brought out the best in the lush graphics. This time, each level has its own music, ranging from futuristic tunes, to fast-summery instrumentals. Matching the colorful landscapes [Which too, look fantastic, almost like the cartoon scenes in “Kung Fu Panda.”], “Mighty Fin” is no longer a title with promise and an obvious blemish.

Make no mistake, now it’s a finished and polished title that is easily one of the best currently available on the iPad.

The eight added levels as well round out the product perfectly. While the levels in the original version of the game weren’t a cakewalk, they lacked complete sophistication. There weren’t many moving objects and for veteran players, who understood the ins and outs of the title, completing a level was never something that couldn’t be done. In the update, several of the levels feature moving objects [pirates, robots, ninjas] spice up the gameplay considerably and make the game uber hard at times.

Because of the spike in difficulty, “Mighty Fin” will take a bit longer to finish and the satisfaction garnered from completion will be that much more intense. No longer is the title a cute little game that makes excellent use of the iPad’s technology.

“Mighty Fin” is swimming with the big fish now.
