WWE RAW Coverage: Girls Just Want to Come on Raw

“When girls just want to have fun, they call the Hot Rod,” Roddy Piper

Mrs. Foley’s baby boy ran Raw from Long Island last night after John Laurinaitis’ expulsion from the company on Sunday at No Way Out. That’s not to say he played an awfully big role though. Big Johnny still had one more diabolical scheme- a handicap match that he claimed would fix John Cena.

Not exactly.

Paul Heyman’s appearance on Raw was once again a highlight. The promo he cut with Triple H was a reason professional wrestling is still enjoyable.

Heath Slater’s appearance on Raw, which saw him interrupt Cyndi Lauper and WWE Hall of Famer Wendy Richter was also classic. To see Roddy Piper join the party was a mark-out moment. Too bad it was borderline terrible to watch. Slater was comic relief, but he was a catalyst to a Piper eye poke and another Lauper golden record that never made it home.

The first Raw after a pay per view, this show was all about building storylines. That’s exactly what happened here, as the Kane/Punk/AJ and Triple H/Brock Lesnar angles were developed. Jack Swagger also has no manager now, so it should be interesting what happens to his character. The same thing could be said for Lord Tensai, who was noticeably absent from the show.

Matches:

Kane and Daniel Bryan vs. World Champion Sheamus and WWE Champion C.M. Punk: Solid opener with plenty of action. Punk, Sheamus and Bryan mixed in some high-flying maneuvers in with their signature offense. Plenty of counters also added to the fun. Bryan’s kicks were particularly featured in this match. AJ changed the scope of the match after she came out dressed out as Kane. This distracted Kane long enough and allowed Sheamus to hit the Brogue Kick and defeat Bryan.

Jack Swagger vs. Dolph Ziggler: Vikki Guerrero watched ringside as the winner was to gain her sole managerial skills. Swagger was the aggressor early on, as the All-American American worked on Ziggler’s legs. But after Ziggler countered Swagger’s Ankle Lock, The Show Off hit the Zig-zag for the win. After the match, he got a kiss from Guerrero.

U.S. Champion Santino Marella vs. Alberto Del Rio [Non-Title]: Del Rio made quick work of Marella with a dropkick and his arm-bar submission finisher.

Primo and Epico w/ Rosa Mendez vs. Darren Young and Titus O’Neil w/ AW: Two good young tag teams that work every match. However, this match was all about building a feud. After Primo hit the Backstabber on Young, AW pulled his team from the match to force the count-out.

John Cena vs. Big Show, David Otunga and John Laurinaitis: After Big Show walked out on the match, Cena looked to make quick work of Otunga, but Mr. Jennifer Hudson was stronger than expected. Strangely, Laurinaitis tagged himself into the match and tried to work over Cena. Otunga then turned his back on his former boss and left him all alone with Cena. Some slaps and routine offense later set up the Five-Knuckle Shuffle and a trio of Attitude Adjustments and an STF for the win.
