Hell’s Kitchen Coverage: Party Time

Put on that new summer outfit and strut that runway because it’s a fashion show on Hell’s Kitchen.

This episode of Hell’s Kitchen started with Danielle being eliminated to the disappointment of the Blue Team. They really don’t like Patrick, his ego and don’t think he makes a good leader. So Royce decided to nominate himself as leader of the Blue Team. Nobody agreed with him.

The next morning Ramsey told the chefs that when he started as a chef he thought French food was “it. Nothing better.” But then he realized that food, like fashion, changes. He brought out three models dressed in the clothing and carrying food from three different eras (50s, 70s and 90s) to show his point. The men seemed to have a blast with this exhibition.

Ramsey then said that, for the first time, it’s fashion night in Hell’s Kitchen. The chefs’ challenge is to make a menu for three fashion designers who will also be the day’s judges. These designers were David Meister, Amanda Che and Ina Soltani. The menu must be one appetizer and two entrees. One poultry, one seafood.

Anyone who’s not a model would agree with Dana when she said, “we get it: you don’t like to eat ever.” The things the judges wanted just screamed that.

The Blue Team seemed more coördinated and the Red Team not so much. Tiffany and Barbie decided to make a fried eggplant dish even after the judges said they don’t eat fried food. Kimmie told Robyn to put more spice in their dish but Robyn insists that salt and pepper is enough. This is after Soltani said she liked spice in her food.

At tasting anyone normal person wanted to reach into the TV and strangle the judges after hearing the comments they were making about the dishes. “It doesn’t look elegant or sophisticated”, “I was expecting something a little more chic, slick, elegant.” And the people at home were yelling “it’s food, not a dress. You people don’t know a thing about food.”

Although them giving Tiffany flak for serving a fried eggplant dish is justified.

As expected, it’s a tie and there must be a tiebreaker. Roshni wins it for Blue team. Their prize was a shopping spree at a boutique in Malibu and then wine tasting. The Red Team had to stay and build a runway for that night’s dinner service.

At the boutique Brian was head over heels for the personal shopper. He tried everything to flirt with her. In other news, Roshni finally comes out of her shell and said she felt like royalty wearing royalty wearing “$800 worth of product.”

It’s pretty funny that there was a glass counter that went up to eight. A drunk Guy is a funny Guy.

Meanwhile, the Red Team were wearing back supports and carrying parts of the runway. Christina was, understandably, angry about doing the physical labor. At least they got a chance to strut their stuff on the runway. Even big girl Kimmie looked sexy.

At this point the episode is ¾ of the way complete and there’s no dinner service. That we learn is for next time as the episode ends with the fashion show just starting and Clemenza starting four scallops before the show even finishes. Ramsey looked like he was about to send him home right then and there.

That was an episode with a lot more filler than imagined. We’ve learned two things: fashion designers make terrible food critics and big girls can look good on runways. Will Clemenza jumping the gun cost him? We’ll just have to wait and see.
