TNA Impact Wrestling Coverage: Aces & Eights Continue Assault

Hulk Hogan and Sting caught a beatdown from the “Aces and Eights” gang last week, which made them unavailable for this week’s show.

Did you just cheer?

How dare you.

Those guys are legends.

While Hogan hasn’t had a good match in at least five years, Sting can still go, but hasn’t been in a decent angle in a long while.

This week, Kurt Angle and Gut Check contestant Sam Shaw were taken out as well by the Aces and Eights too, followed by TNA World Heavyweight Champion Austin Aries and Robert Roode during the show’s final segment. Rumors on the dirt sheets say former WWE superstar Luke Gallows and Wes Brisco, son of former NWA Tag Team champion Gerald Brisco are a part of the group.

In other news, TNA also signed former WCW cruiserweight champion Chavo Guerrero.

But the big question is, how will this group and the signing of Guerrero continue TNA’s recent push in the right direction? At this moment, it’s hard to tell.

With Hogan, Sting and Angle off the show this week, more time was spent on the gang and actual wrestling. At the same time, the show seemed to drag.

The decline of AJ Styles and this terrible angle he’s in with Christopher Daniels, Frank Kazarian and Claire Lynch has to end soon too. Enough. Just let Styles fly. That’s what he was born to do. After a decade in the sport, he’s still terrible on the mic, so why does TNA continue to show him at his weakest?

Matches:

Bound for Glory Series: Samoa Joe vs. The Pope: With only seven points in the Bound for Glory Series, Pope needed points and wasted no time against Joe. Trying various submission holds and a bevy of strikes, Pope was pretty strong against the former TNA Champion. Joe was smarter though, grabbing the arm of Pope and getting the submission win. Not a great match, but good to see Joe keep winning matches.

Bound for Glory Series: Jeff Hardy vs. Robbie E. w/ Rob Terry: The heel team was solid in the early going, but Hardy make the typical face comeback after a nice Whisper in the Wind. However, he spent more time beating up Terry on the outside and got counted out, resulting in a Robbie E win.

Get Check: Sam Shaw vs. ?: The Aces and Eights gang destroyed Shaw before the match got started.

Bound for Glory Series: Mr. Anderson vs. AJ Styles: A Routine encounter. These guys can obviously work and the match was enjoyable, but it wasn’t anything new. During the last few minutes, it appeared both Styles and Anderson were gassed. The near-falls and countered sped things up a bit, but overall, this was mediocre. Anderson won via the rollup after countering the Styles Clash.

Bound for Glory Series: Rob Van Dam vs. Christopher Daniels: A decent match, but again, nothing special. Daniels used the ropes and countered the Rolling Thunder for the win.

Bound for Glory Series: Magnus vs. Bully Ray: Best paced match of the night. These guys broke a sweat. Magnus nearly won with a Texas Cloverleaf, but missed a big elbow, which allowed Ray to use the Cutter for the win.

Robert Roode vs. TNA World Heavyweight Champion Austin Aries: Another good match from these two. At one point, this could have been the best match on Impact this year. There was a hearty combination of submission work, striking, near-falls, counters and spots on display throughout. The “We want T-shirts” chant was weird, but the match was otherwise enjoyable.

Well that was until the Aces and Eights took out both Aries and Roode.
