The third season of AMC’s “The Walking Dead” has wrapped up with more yawns than cheers.
Other than some witty performances by a few big characters, there was little to be desired. Throughout the second half of this third season we have witnessed two camps set up what should have been an epic showdown. However the final battle left many questions unanswered and little anticipation on what’s to come in the series next season.
As “The Walking Dead†continues to carry a huge fanbase it is easy to say that there is no comparison from the actual show itself to the actual comics the show is loosely based on. The differences they carry are astronomical due to the fact that the comics are by far more graphic and eerie- enough to make the show look watered-down. Although there is plenty of violence on television, it does not compare to what is shown in the comics; it simply is not even close.
From Woodbury to the prison, the season started out strong. There were several episodes that were powerful enough to be considered for Emmy nominations. There were characters that had to make drastic decisions that would impact them mentally. Major characters were killed off and most importantly the plot line was headed in the right direction in terms of a consistent flow. But the direction of “The Walking Dead†ultimately started to lose its luster. The problem that “The Walking Dead†has it that it tries hard to emulate the comic at times, but uses different characters to do the cool stuff. While Daryl is cool, he’s not even close to Tyrese in the comic.
While there was anticipation for this season to take place and granted the fan base continues to grow, the story continues to become a drastic bore. The second part of season three was like the same old song and dance the previous seasons had. The group would stay in one location for the entire season and when their territory became a hostile environment they decided to take action. The only difference this season had was final showdown that resulted in Rick and the group to not give up their territory. The bad news is that the climax left no possible answers.
It seems that the approach they took in terms of character development involved the least important character in Carl and made him a key role for the next season. While season four will have to wait until next October, there will not be nearly as big anticipation like in the previous seasons. Although there are a few characters that might pose a threat to Rick and the rest of the group, the excitement has diminished. The theme and plot line of the show still yell same old same old. Overall, “The Walking Dead†season there second half was a dud. The zombies look like they have more life than the plot.
