Impact Wrestling Coverage: Gang Warfare

Damn did wrestling matter tonight or what? No drama, all action. The card was stacked and the storylines were developed enough to satisfy. While there weren’t many clean finishes, the Aces and Eights reign of dominance is getting serious. They have a stranglehold on the company and it’s apparent now that TNA needs a hero.

Who will it be?

Away from the silliness of the X-cam (Back in the WCW days, they tried a camera a referee’s head. It didn’t work then either) this episode was one of the better ones this year.

Matches:

Garrett Bischoff and Wes Brisco vs. Kurt Angle: The Aces and Eights’ youngest members had some serious problems with the former Olympic gold medalist. On fire with strikes and counters, Angle was in complete control. That was until a low blow from Brisco allowed Bischoff to begin the offensive. After a snap suplex, Brisco got the tag and hit a few clotheslines and locked on a sleeper. In typical face fashion, Angle countered into a Belly to Back suplex and then began handing out suplexes to both of his opponents. He even landed a German suplex on both of them at the same time (Thanks to some selling from Brisco). Once Brisco was in the Ankle Lock, D’Lo Brown and Mr. Anderson were ringside and distracted the ref. That allowed Brown to throw Bischoff a chain, which was used to nail Angle in the back of the head and earn the win. After the match, Brisco put the exclamation mark on the match with a Powerbomb.

X-Division Champion Kenny King vs. Petey Williams vs. Zema Ion: Williams hit the Canadian Destroyer on King early, but Ion made the save. Ion then hit a few moves on Williams, including his outside-in Tornado DDT. Williams changed the pace with a Sharpshooter, but King got back in the match with a running knee on Williams and a pin on the already injured Zion.

Television Champion Devon vs. Magnus: Before the bell rang, Doc and Mike Knox got involved, which allowed Devon to punch Magnus in the gut with a chain. Knox and Doc then double-Chokeslammed Magnus on the ramp before Samoa Joe made the save. No contest.

Number 1 Contenders Match: Brooke Tessmacher vs. Mickie James: This was a run of the mill back and forth encounter. Aside from Mickie James’ skimpy shorts and a Tessmacher “butt rub” in the corner, there was little noteworthy here. James nearly won with a Thesz press from the top rope, but ultimately got the ring with a rollup after a series of counters.
Samoa Joe vs. Television Champion Devon: Joe was about to hit the Muscle Buster, but interference from Mr. Anderson, Garrett Bischoff and Wes Brisco, Devon got the win. After the match, Anderson punched Joe in the face with brass knuckles.

AJ Styles vs. James Storm: Best match of the night as both Storm and Styles broke a sweat. However, this wasn’t your typical Styles match. Storm was ironically in charge for the majority of the match and nearly won with a TKO-esque neckbreaker. Storm continued the onslaught with his signature Closing Time manuever, but Styles ended up with the win via a Knee Lock Submission. After the match, Styles took out both Christopher Daniels and Frank Kazarian. Soon enough, Styles was out of the ring and the Aces and Eights beat up Bad Influence and Storm.
