TNA Impact Wrestling Coverage: Sad

How adorable.

Sting and Hulk Hogan are best buddies again.

Typical TNA that Sting would get right back in the world title mix after going months without wrestling in a “real” match.

Thankfully, the return of Chris Sabin and the antics of Matt Morgan made for some interesting moments in an otherwise stale episode of Impact. While TNA Creative has essentially ruined the Aces and Eights angle by making Sting and Hogan central figures in their opposition, they are still an enjoyable faction to watch. From their matches to their promos, they still have potential.

Ah, if only they had someone to fight that could be taken seriously as a threat. Nothing against the “faces” of TNA, but they aren’t charismatic enough. A serious shakeup on the TNA roster is needed. Or else nothing is going to change. Another ultimatum to AJ Styles doesn’t solve anything either. At this point, TNA feels flaccid.

Matches:

X-Division Contenders Match: Sonjay Dutt vs. Zema Ion vs. Chris Sabin: A fast-paced opener with plenty of offense. Ion and Dutt sold a bit for Sabin, but all three competitors performed some of their signature moves. Sabin ultimately got the win with a modified version of his old Cradle Shock finisher.

Rob Terry vs. Jessie Godderz, Robbie E. and Joey Ryan: A snore fest that saw Terry win with his Front Spinebuster. Even after two years in TNA, Terry is just a green monster.

I Quit Match: D’Lo Brown vs. Kurt Angle: Brown looked more than solid in his first real match on Impact in years. Angle was no slouch either, throwing German Suplexes around like pennies at a wishing well. After a few back and forth submission moves, Angle won with a modified Ankle Lock. From the drama in the back towards the end of the show, it looks like Brown will have to answer to Bully ay next week.

Mickie James and Taryn Terrell vs. Gail Kim and Tara: This was your typical faces vs. heels match. James did the majority of the heavy lifting for her team as Tara and Kim stomped her out. Terrell got the hot tag and won with the sneaky rollup. After the match, Kim beat on Terrell and applied the Figure-Four on one of the ring posts.

#1 Contenders Match: Sting vs. Matt Morgan: “The Blueprint” delivered a slew of offense including clotheslines and a Chokeslam on the Stinger to start the match. Sting did fight back on the outside, but Morgan fought back with a Sideslam and an illegal choke. At certain points in the match, Morgan looked super dominant. But like so many times before, Sting made his vintage comeback. This time however, Morgan countered the Stinger Splash into the Carbon Footprint. After Sting kicked out, Morgan went for the move again and missed. Soon enough, Sting applied the Scorpion Deathlock. It took him a while, but Morgan eventually got to the ropes. Just a few seconds later, Sting applied the move again, this time in the center of the ring. Sitting on Morgan’s back, Sting tightened the hold until Morgan passed out from the pain.
