Boring could possibly be the best word to discuss TNA Impact Wrestling this week.
Slow could be another.
With routine matches, zero unpredictability and shoddy promo work from Chris Sabin, Bully Ray and TIto Ortiz, Impact Wrestling was as exciting as a bingo hall (not the good one in Philadelphia) this week.
The fact that AJ Styles and Austin Aries were absent from the show entirely wasn’t a help either.
Matches:
Bound for Glory Series: Jeff Hardy vs. Samoa Joe: Both performers managed to squeeze plenty of signature maneuvers and spots into the 15-minute or so match. Joe nearly won the back and forth match with several counters, but Hardy eventually earned the victory with a rollup after he successful countered the Coquina Clutch.
Bound for Glory Series: Mr. Anderson vs. Magnus: Another good match, but again it was routine. Magnus made the typical face comeback after Anderson was dominant early. Things changed quickly though after Magnus missed the Top Rope Elbow, as Anderson appeared ready to hit the Mic-Check. Interference soon after from Bobby Roode helped earn Anderson (who was the recipient of a steel chair shot from the IT-Factor) the win via DQ.
TNA Tag Team Champions James Storm an Gunner and ODB vs. Robbie E. and Jessie Godderz and Knockout Champion Mickie James: Another routine encounter with a decent amount of offense. James and ODB barely payed a role. Storm and Gunner won with a Powerslam/Reverse DDT combo. After the match, Gail Kim beat on ODB a tad.
Bound for Glory Series: Frank Kazarian vs. Christopher Daniels: This could have been the best match of the night, but the double count-out finish made it a waste of time. Even at that, it ultimately meant very little as both Daniels and Kazarian aren’t legit contenders for the Bound for Glory tournament. Instead, this could have been a simple way to provide the show with a decent match. Huge fail. Even Roode’s appearance after the match was a bore.
World Heavyweight Champion Chris Sabin and Kurt Angle vs. Bully Ray and Devon: Sabin and Angle were in control for most of the match. As a result, this was not the Team 3D comeback many would have liked to see. While the teamwork from Team 3D was there at times and both teams got their licks in, the match was just a slow, dragged out mess. The 3D Devon and Ray delivered on Angle was the highlight of the night. After a table was introduced into the match and placed in the corner by Devon, Sabin moved out of the way before Ray could hit the Avalanche, sending Ray through the table. Sabin then won with a lame Cross-Body from the Top Rope on Ray.
