Swedish Crossover Thrashers Six In Line is back with their latest EP; titled “Even Though We Go Way Back This Ain’t Like Old Times Though We Go Back In Time.â€
This is a grammatical error CM Punk would thoroughly enjoy slamming.
Despite the traditionally awkward title (every Six In Line release has an intentionally erroneous name); the EP features four bizarre songs and boasts the greatest Sci-Fi artwork imaginable.
A cowboy about to do battle in the Old West with a Tyrannosaurus Rex during a UFO attack is about as epic as it gets.
The four songs (Even Though, Prison Rules, When All is Sad and Done, Happy Again) also make their own run on sentence – which may or may not have been intentional on the bands behalf.
Each song has its own unique blend of insanity, fusing American Thrash Metal with Swedish grooves and a dash of the Mediterranean melodies, the latter of which is most prominent in “Prison Rules.†This song is more about the rules of surviving prison than enjoying yourself there; indicated by the song’s hilarious final lyric, “Don’t you drop the soap.â€
“Happy Again†is an extremely whimsical closer that is just as heavy as it is catchy. Don’t be surprised if you find yourself dancing by the end of the song.
The production of the EP is top notch. Everything is mixed just right and nothing is buried in the chaos. This is what the standard for an album should be.
Six In Line have once again found a way to top themselves with this solid addition to their catalog. With now two EPs and a demo, it’s about time they release an album. They’ve got the right lineup and a rich sound, now they just have to take it to the next level.
