The thought of two World Champions has been done before- TNA knows it. TNA fans deserve so much better than the predictable drama the company offers them. With a quality roster that have proven before that they are capable of more, the writing staff and booking community needs to be dismantled so the locker room can shine. This show needs to be taken back to formula- and fast. Every time it appears the show has turned a corner, it manages to stop itself in its own tracks.
Sure, AJ Styles came back with a vengeance, but is it really enough?
This week’s episode wasn’t terrible, but it was awfully predictable. The thought of ongoing feuds between Bobby Roode and Kurt Angle, as well as Austin Aries and Chris Sabin and debut of Samual Shaw were cool, but the matchup of Magnus and AJ Styles for the TNA title isn’t as intriguing as it should be. For that reason, Impact took a few steps forward, but just as many backward.
Matches:
Knockouts Champion Gail Kim w/ Lei’D Tapa vs. Madison Rayne: Tapa got involved and swayed the match in Kim’s favor and after a Surfboard Dragon Sleeper combo, Kim stayed in control. Although Rayne had her moments of offense, Kim was able to stay the aggressor. However, but after a counter of the Eat Defeat, Rayne rolled up Kim for the win and a possible title shot.
X-Division Champion Austin Aries vs. Chris Sabin w/Velvet Sky: A solid X-Division encounter that saw both Aries and Sabin trade loads of high-flying offense. However, after Sky reluctantly set the distraction, Sabin won with a Low Blow/Rollup combination.
Samual Shaw vs. Norv Furnam: Shaw’s attack is methodical and straight up weird. To say his character is reminiscent of Christian Bale in “American Psycho” is an understatement. Never in trouble, Shaw dominated and won with a standing Choke.
Kurt Angle and Gunner vs. Bobby Roode and James Storm: Beer Money was kind of back and they looked like they didn’t miss a beat. Utilizing quick tags, the two beat on Gunner for a good chunk of the match. Once Angle got in the match, he quickly applied the Ankle Lock, but Storm and Roode were a step ahead. Gunner too managed to get Roode in the Gun Rack, but a Storm Last Call, coupled with Roode’s Rack Neckbreaker, earned Beer Money the win.
Ethan Carter III vs. Jeff Hardy: ECIII talked some smack before the match, but Hardy, who announced last week he was done with the company last week, never showed up. Sting did instead and the two shot against another for a few minutes before they agreed to a match at Genesis.
Joseph Park vs. Bully Ray: This match never really got started, as Ray covered Park and Mr. Anderson (who came in to help) in lighter fluid and appeared ready to set them both on fire.
