In the wake of one of the most controversial Wrestlemania’s ever, this week’s Monday Night RAW was filled with drama and intrigue.
The fact that Antonio Cesaro is the new Paul Heyman guy would have been cool enough, but there was more. A lot more. Away from Paige’s capturing of the Divas Title and a successful title defense from Daniel Bryan, there was still plenty of other stuff going on. An awesome Heyman promo got the crowd going early on, but the returns of Wade Barrett and Rob Van Dam, the in-ring debut and Alexander Rusev, an eccentric appearance from The Ultimate Warrior as well as a pair of vignettes for NXT star Adam Rose kept them entranced for three hours.
Simply put, this week’s RAW was fun.
Matches:
Bray Wyatt, Luke Harper and Erik Rowan vs. John Cena, Sheamus and Intercontinental Champion Big E. Langston: This was a grueling, Main Event type match. All six competitors hit signature moves, but it was Wyatt who the crowd clamored for the most. Singing “He’s Got The Whole World, In His Hands,†while Wyatt beat on Cena, it’s obvious Wyatt is beloved by those who can’t stand Cena. Lucky for them, Cena sold a ton of offense from Wyatt and Harper. Sheamus changed the flow of the match with a Titl-A-Whirl Powerslam on Rowan and a Double Top Rope Shoulder Block on Harper and Rowan. Langston was in fire when he got in as well, but after Harper and Rowan eliminated Sheamus and Cena, Wyatt finished off Langston with the Sister Abigail.
Fandango and Summer Rae vs. Santino Marella and Emma: Marella and Fandango were barely a factor as Emma destroyed Summer Rae with her signature offense and the Emma Lock.
WWE Tag Team Champions Jimmy and Jey Uso vs. Batista and Randy Orton: The Uso’s were severely out muscled against two former World Heavyweight Champions, but the match was thrown out after both teams were counted out. After the bell, Batista nailed one of the Usos with a Standing Batista Bomb on the ring steps.
Damien Sandow vs. Rob Van Dam: Sandow got in a few licks, but RVD quickly won with the Rolling Thunder and Five-Star Frog Splash.
Rey Mysterio vs. Wade Barrett: Like the last match, Mysterio went through some signature offense, but Barrett got the win with a big time Bullhammer Elbow.
Alexander Rusev w/Lana vs. Zack Ryder: Super Kick, Modified Samoan Drop, Modified Urinage Suplex and a Camel Clutch. Game over Ryder.
NXT Women’s Champion Paige vs. Divas Champion AJ Lee w/Tamina Snuka: Lee got Paige in the Octupus Stretch, but Paige countered into a sloppy version of the Paige Turner. Don’t let this quick match scare you away, this girl is the real deal.
Antonio Cesaro w/Paul Heyman vs. Jack Swagger w/ Zeb Colter: Cesaro nailed Swagger with Elbows and prepared to give him the Giant Swing, but Swagger got himself counted out.
WWE World Heavyweight Champion Daniel Bryan vs. Triple H w/Stephanie McMahon: Before the match, Randy Orton and Batista destroyed Bryan with a RKO and a Batista Bomb. Kane soon hit the ring and followed up the damage with a Chokeslam. Once the bell rung, The Shield joined the party. After Triple H tried to calm things down, Reigns nailed Triple H with a Spear. When it appeared the trio was about to Triple Powerbomb HHH, Bryan hit the Running Knee and the COO left the ring.
