TNA Impact Wrestling Coverage: MVP’s Reign of Terror Continues

MVP’s new faction with Bobby Lashley and Kenny King continuing to wreak havoc on TNA World Heavyweight Champion Eric Young. As a result, the show was flooded with promo and impromptu beatdowns. But it wasn’t exactly meaningless.

If MVP is going to be the top heel, he needs TV time. This week was about getting that faction over. Between their promo work in the beginning of the show, to their matches throughout the night, the show at least accomplished that goal.

Continuing to set the scene for Slammiversary, this past week’s Impact had four decent matches that build current storylines, from the Ethan Carter III/Bully Ray angle to Angelina Love’s issues with Gail Kim. While they were far from ground-breaking, the foundational work for Slammiversary has been set, even with the weird Gunner/Samuel Shaw and Mr.Anderson/James Storm segments. All TNA needs is a good follow up next week and an even better go home show and maybe, just maybe, TNA’s most important PPV of the year should break past the mediocre.

Matches:

Knockouts Title Open Challenge: Knockouts Champion Angelina Love w/Velvet Sky vs. Brittany: Love was in control for a good chunk of the match, but Brittany fought back with a nice Russian Leg Sweep and strikes. However, once Brittany had Love in a pinning combination, Sky distracted the referee. After Brittany took out Sky, she walked right into a Love Superkick for the loss. After the match Sky and Love put their signature brown bag over Brittany’s head before Gail Kim made the save.

MVP vs. Austin Aries: mVP got in a few licks, but for the most part, this match was all Aries. After a pair of corner dropkicks, Aries set up MVP for the 450, but interference from King and Lashley got the match thrown out.

Falls Count Anywhere: Willow vs. Magnus w/Bram: The match went all over the arena, but neither Magnus or Willow were unable to get the advantage. Things changed when Bram introduced a crowbar. Although Magnus hit Willow with the object once, he didn’t finish him off. Contemplating the next shot with the crowbar, Magnus turned his back on Willow. When he turned back, he walked right into the Twist of Fate, giving Willow the win.

Kenny King vs. Eddie Edwards: There was no referee for this one as King made an open challenge and instead got his rear end handed to him by Edwards. Avenging the beating his tag partner Davey Richards took earlier in the show, Edwards laid multiple strikes on King on the outside. Once they were back in the ring, King got the advantage, using the mic over Edwards head. After they traded more blows on the outside, King got the last laugh with an Exploder Suplex.

TNA World Heavyweight Champion Eric Young vs. Bobby Lashley: EY hung tough, but Lashley put on a show. From all the submission holds and strikes, Lashley continues to prove he can still perform. The match went to the dogs however once MVP and King got involved and after a Lashley Spear and Running Powerslam, cost EY the match.
