Review Fix Exclusive: The American Scene’s Jeff Wright Talks ‘Haze’

Review Fix chats with The American Scene’s Jeff Wright, who discusses the band’s new album, “Haze.” A cool blend of both Indie and Alternative Rock, those who grew up on acts the likes of Brand New and The Strokes will definitely find something they like here.

Review Fix: What’s the band’s creative process like?

Jeff Wright: It’s similar to a UFO Sighting – Quick, mysterious and generally a grey area to the public.

Review Fix: How was the album’s title track written?

Wright: Haze was actually the only song written in the studio. It was the end of pre-production week and we decided to drop one of the songs we came it with. So we literally jammed for about two days on it and came up with Haze.

Review Fix: You guys have an impressive social media following. How much time do you devote to it? Do you think it’s an important part of the band?

Wright: We definitely devote close to zero time to it. Some people have told us that we even need to be “posting more on social media”. Most of the fans we have we harvested from steady touring for a couple years. We use twitter the most. Heard some sketch things about Facebook.

Review Fix: What song do you think has the best story behind it? Can you share?

Wright: “Drone” was the first song written on the record. We wrote it literarily surrounded by CDs and vinyl INSIDE of the pure noise records HQ.

Review Fix: What song do you think has the ability to grow on people the most?

Wright: “Nails of Love.”

Review Fix: Who are some artists that inspire you guys that people may not expect based on the way you perform?

Wright: Prince, Interpol, Fucked Up, 50 Cent, The National, The Strokes.

Review Fix: How would you say your live shows are different from your studio work?

Wright: We definitely practice restraint in the studio so that we can do some cool things in the live setting. But I’m not trying to give anything away.

Review Fix: For people that have never heard you perform, why should they check this album out?

Wright: “Haze” is a record that underlines everything that we are, as a band, at this very moment and it features some of the best material that we could come up with. Also, Charles plays a grip of dance beats. If you purchase the record and play it at above 135 dBu, you too can see what it’s like to freak out.
