Review Fix chats with actress Tonya Cornelisse, who discusses her most recent roles in “Pele” and Sci-Fi horror, “Lost Time.”
One of the most talented up an comers in Hollywood, Cornelisse has enjoyed every second of a super busy 2014.
Review Fix: How are you different from other actors?
Tonya Cornelisse: I like ketchup more than all of them? No, well probably yes but – I don’t know, I am very weird … and … I speak elvish?! I just like to make things….and people who make things. I should have been a welder.
Review Fix: How do you want your performance in “Pele” to be remembered?
Cornelisse: Sassy and show stopping … I show up, I swear, I throw cake!
Review Fix: How do you think your roles in various theatre production have helped your big-screen performances?
Cornelisse: Theatre is the actors medium – you go there to do the work – like a gym – that is where the muscle is displayed and gained. It is the foundation. So, immensely I would have to say.
Review Fix: What kind of roles do you really want to play?
Cornelisse: Anything that makes my heart beat faster – I love to leap and then dig up the earth … if I feel like I can lend that in a role to a project – I am all in.
Review Fix: What was it like to work with Melanie Griffith, Sienna Miller and Lucy Punch?
Cornelisse: Well, Sienna and Lucy where in the film but I, personally, worked with Melanie most of it. She was awesome – funny, sweet, and down to play – a great time.
Review Fix: What was the set of “Lost Time” like?
Cornelisse: Haunted! This shoot was a two shower day – every day. No joke though, we shot in an abandoned mental institution in downtown Los Angeles … it was a trip – no one talked about it at the time, no crew / no cast, but when we saw each other awhile afterward everyone was like “it was ridiculous” …. I just got goosebumps right now – extremely creepy ones.
Review Fix: Who do you think will enjoy that film the most?
Cornelisse: Any true fans of the Sci-fi genre … this ones for you! It’s a cool film for anyone though – solid script and fun cast (obviously, I don’t mean me – I’m a real jerk) … I think it’s an accessible ride for all audiences though.
Review Fix: You’ve been in a ton of films lately. How do you find the time?
Cornelisse: You know, it’s been a good little run and I am happy to be busy, but they were all shot over different periods of time and just happen to be all surfacing at once.
Review Fix: How has being so busy affected your life?
Cornelisse: Work hard, play hard I suppose. I have always been one to like to go from project to project. I love to travel, it is the best thing anyone can do if life offers it to you – it’s instant knowledge. I have been very lucky to do so a lot through work.
Review Fix: How have your appearances on “Parks and Recreation,†“NCIS,†“ER,†and “Law and Order SVU” played a role in your success?
Cornelisse: Television really reaches more audiences than any other medium if you are an actor – the visibility of that helps – you know, jobs get jobs.
