Review Fix chats with “Biowars†creator Gabe Shaoolian, who discusses the inspiration behind the series and its goals for the future. Also discussing the origin of the series and the comics he read as a kid, Shaoolian gives us an inside look at the nifty comic book series.

Review Fix: What was the inspiration for the series?
Gabe Shaoolian: Biowars started as a hobby for me. I studied biochemistry at NYU and I became fascinated with how our bodies exist as micro-universes and the daily battles for existence that take place within them. I wanted to share my vision with everyone and open their imagination to understand how amazing our inner worlds are. I feel incredibly fortunate to have the means to share this story digitally with readers.
Review Fix: How would you describe the series to someone who hasn’t read it?
Shaoolian: Biowars is about the internal struggle that takes place in our basic immune system against invading microbes, bacteria, and viruses. The story takes place on a microscopic scale but the constant battles against the millions of invading forces to our body are epic. The actual landscape belongs to Alex Hawking, a regular guy who’s just been infected with a deadly microbe, the likes of which the defenders of his body and the world has never seen before.
Review Fix: What comics and other media did you absorb as a kid? How do you think it influenced this comic?
Shaoolian: X-Men was a favorite comic of mine as a kid. Our writer for Biowars, Mark Powers, has actually worked on quite a few X-Men comics while he was Senior Editor at Marvel. I’ve always been a big comics fan and the possibility of mutations happening is something that I’ve always fantasized about. As you read Biowars, you’ll definitely see similarities between the X-Men and the BioWarriors in the ways their powers differentiate and present themselves in battle.
Review Fix: What’s your favorite moment in the series and why?
Shaoolian: Probably when Alexander Hawking contracts the germ from his father. That’s really how the story of Biowars begins, and sets the stage for the war inside Alex’s body.
Review Fix: Are there plans to continue the series?
Shaoolian: Absolutely. We plan on continuing Biowars for as long as we have fans who want to read the series.
Review Fix: Any ideas on moving the series to television?
Shaoolian: We would love to move our comic to TV, or even the big screen. We have an app game set to release in a month or two, which we’re really excited about.
Review Fix: What do you think you learned while putting this series together that you think can help you moving forward?
Shaoolian: I learned that there is no limit on imagination and creativity, which helps me continue building the Biowars story and entertaining our readers.
Review Fix: How do you want the series to be remembered?
Shaoolian: I want people to remember Biowars as a fun, interactive way to learn about the human body; a fun, action-packed comic series that shows how interesting our bodies really are.
