Inside Retro Game Treasure

National Video Games Examiner Patrick Hickey Jr. chats with Retro Game Treasure Founder Buck Stine, who discusses the origins of the nifty retro video game retail subscription service, and the company’s goals for 2016.

Patrick Hickey Jr.: What was the inspiration for this service?

Buck Stine: I’m a gamer and have been since I was little.  I’m a child of the 80s and I got my first NES for my 5th birthday.  I grew up around these games and have always been a collector and had a passion for all the older consoles.  In the sea of subscription services, I realized (and much to my excitement) that there was a void in Retro Games.  After months of research on feasibility for this as a business, we were founded and opened our “doors” in February of last year.

Hickey Jr.: How hard is it to consistently deliver quality content for your subscribers, while maintaining a profit?

Stine: This is a Customer Service based business.  I have a background in business and 15+ years in customers service, I required that my staff be customer service people too.  Making sure our customers are happy (even if it sacrifices profits sometimes) is what makes a Subscription business like this work for so many people.  We’re able to offer a wide variety of games and consistently make our service better.
