Hell’s Kitchen Season 15 Episode 2 Recap: Anyone Want a Dropped Lamb Chop?

Getting distracted is what Ramsay does not want his chefs to get. That does not stop them from doing poorly when a well known “Grammy” winning rapper shows up in a new episode of “Hell’s Kitchen.”

In this episode, the opening theme didn’t play until five minutes into the show, after the part where the chefs are talking in the dorms. Normally it plays after the “previously on Hell’s Kitchen.” Some new things are fine, but this one just feels weird.

In the morning, Ramsay introduced the chefs to two “Buckingham Palace” guards, who Ramsay said, “are never distracted.” The day’s challenge was making dumplings. They had twenty minutes to split into pairs and make as many dumplings as possible. They were judged by how many steaming baskets they had and how well the dumplings were made. There was one catch: Ramsay ordered a ton of distractions. Some highlights were a marching band, the “palace guards” were really strippers and sumo wrestlers having a match. They did pretty well to not get distracted considering the noise being made. It was also rather funny.

At the end of the challenge, the baskets were counted. The worst were Frank and Hassan’s because their dumplings looked like pierogies. In the end, the Red Team won 13-12. Their reward was a helicopter ride and lunch at “Geoffrey’s Malibu.”

The Blue on the other had to prep for that night’s dinner service. That included cleaning some very exotic mushrooms. These were the types of mushrooms you see on an alien planet. They were just stuck in one big piece. On top of that, they had to shuck corn. And yes, somebody (Joe) said the obvious line (“mother shuckers.”)

And Frank got the drama started early when they were shucking corn. Ah, the drama. It’s one of the reasons people watch “Hell’s Kitchen.”

Also, this is the second episode where it felt routine after the day challenge. Not enough drama.

At dinner service, both teams did a lot better than the last service, but not without problems. Not to mention rapper “The Game” made a late entry into service and Ramsay was kind enough to serve him and his posse.

In the Blue, Joe started by dropping a lamb chop. Yup, he dropped it by tossing the chops in the pan. He would then forget the next order that Ramsay called. He even asked Ramsay to repeat it which pissed him off to no end.

In the Red things started in one of the worst ways possible. The stove that Ashley was using to cook risotto was off. How in the world a professional chef does not know that his stove is off is a great mystery. When it came time to cook for “The Game” Ariel brought up Meese’s snapper before anything else was ready. It was also not ready. What made it worse was Ariel did not take responsibility for it and instead Meese spoke up. Taking the blame for someone else’s mistake, especially in a competition, will cost you. Sherkenna would then overcook the Arctic char (salmon.) Dannie had to help her.

Both teams finished dinner service, but the Red Team lost. They had to choose three people. They chose Meese, Ariel and Sherkenna with Sherkenna getting eliminated.

The daily challenge and dinner service were the best parts of this episode. Everything else felt uninteresting. A little drama is fine as long it doesn’t get overblown like some seasons. The season is starting to get interesting, though.
