Hopes for Monday’s Wrestling Shows

With this Monday night being easily the most important in recent wrestling history, Review Fix shares its hopes for the night.

Less-Yapping, More Wrasslin’: Aside from hearing Hart and Hogan, there should be little melodrama tonight. A nice heart-helping of matches is exactly what this night ought to have.

High-Quality Matches: Seems like the only time you can watch a great match today is on DVD or pay-per-view. With TNA and WWE running unopposed on different nights, the sense of urgency isn’t there anymore and as a result, the quality of matches have suffered- big time. It’s so bad that even the debut show of ECW on Sci-Fi a few years ago had a jobber match featured [Anyone remember the Zombie?]. Are you kidding? That’s supposed to be a thing of the past, especially with people paying for cable service and advertisers forking over millions to see these guys perform out there. Having a great technical match between two young superstars on each show would be a great way to usher in the new year and show the real fans they haven’t forgotten about them.

Hulk Hogan doesn’t wrestle: At 56 years old, no matter what he’s done in the past, Hogan should not wrestle. If he interrupts a match or something to that extent- fine and dandy, but please, no more leg drops and big boots. You’ve got more plastic and metal in your body than a new Saab and it’s best to let the fans remember you for what you were, which was the most charismatic and enduring figures in the sport’s history.

Bret Hart REALLY speaks his mind: While his DVD compilation and mid-90s documentary were candid to an extent, it would be nice to see the Hitman speak his mind about Shawn Michaels and Vince McMahon. Making matches is great and seeing him on TV is one thing, but having Hart share his thoughts on his career [possibly telling us what he ate before the Survivor Series match that caused that huge loogie on McMahon’s face] and the state of the sport, in front of millions on live TV, would make for some of the best moments in the sports history.

A title change: WWE’s pale-skinned and ginger Champion Sheamus, “The Celtic Warrior” is getting a big push and AJ Styles seems to have control over the TNA title, but seeing someone like Hernandez win the Global Championship or an up and coming youngster come out of nowhere to steal the United States Heavyweight title from the Miz [easily one of the coolest wrestlers out there, but better as a hungry heel than a champ] and start a long-running feud would be different.
