Review Fix Editor-In-Chief Patrick Hickey Jr. chats with Tourniquet Drummer Ted Kilpatrick who discusses his newest creation, “The Doom in Us All.â€
About The Doom in Us All:
Kirkpatrick has assembled an all-star lineup to pay tribute to BLACK SABBATH, with members of Skid Row, Fozzy, Living Colour and more as the legendary heavy metal pioneers get ready to embark on their final tour, “The End.â€
Review Fix: What made you get this project started?
Ted Kilpatrick: I’ve been a Sabbath fan since I was 12. I remember listening to Master of Reality and Paranoid while playing pool and hanging out with friends. I’ve wanted to do this album for years, and now that Sabbath is on their final tour, it seemed like the perfect time to record and release it.
Review Fix: What was it like to work with Chris Jericho?
Kilpatrick: Great. I believe Chris has been aware of Tourniquet since Stop the Bleeding, so very cool that he was into doing it. He put 110% into it, like he seems to do with everything.
Review Fix: What do you think is the standout song on this album?
Kilpatrick: Can’t pick one. They are all standouts just because they are all iconic Sabbath tunes.
Review Fix: Why does Black Sabbath still matter after all of these years?
Kilpatrick: They were/are the true pioneers of heavy metal. Any band playing heavy distorted music owes a “thank you†to Black Sabbath. The fact that they just embarked on such an extensive arena tour shows that they still matter.
Review Fix: How do you want your performance here to be remembered?
Kilpatrick: It would be nice for people to see it as a “true-to-the-original versions†tribute. Great care was taken to play the riffs and arrangements as they were written and recorded by Sabbath. Also – I hope people see it as having a very heavy sound and full production.
Review Fix: What’s next?
Kilpatrick: Working on the next Tourniquet album – looking for a late 2016 release.
