Review Fix chats with Bad Flowers’ Tom Leighton, who discusses the band, their origin and their upcoming tour with Crobot.
Review Fix: How did the band get together?
Tom Leighton: After previous projects for all three of us came to and stand still, we came together for a rehearsal and instantly agreed that we all had the same passion, drive and determination to get where we wanted to be, from then on it’s been a done deal.
Review Fix: What’s your creative process like?
Leighton: We tend to get together and just jam and see what comes out, we’ll have ideas that we’ve worked on at home and bring those to the table too but to be honest we just jam and when we come across a riff or a hook we like we go from there.
Review Fix: What’s your standout song? How was it written?
Leighton: Picking just one stand out song is really hard for us to do, but if we had to pick our favourite song to play it would be ‘city lights’ it was written pretty quickly to be honest, we jammed around with riffs Tom and Dale came up with and it kind of just came together, then Tom took it away and wrote the lyrics.
Review Fix: What are your goals for 2016?
Leighton: We’re recording an EP as we speak so we’re looking to promote and tour that as much as we can then head back to the studio at the end of the year and start work on an album.
Review Fix: How do you want your music to affect people?
Leighton: Just want it to get people pumped and leave them wanting more when we play live! Just thinking “fuck that was good” and from the recordings we do, we want it to make people want to come out and see us live.
Review Fix: What’s next?
Leighton: Well we’re about to head out on a run of 3 dates with Crobot in June at The Crauford Arms Milton Keynes on the 21st, The Rainbow Birmingham 22nd and Islington O2 Academy on the 23rd so we’re really looking forward to that, we’re also playing Glastonbudget and Darwin Live festivals in the summer.
