Review Fix Exclusive: Inside ‘dïm’

Review Fix chats with Jordan Edelson, founder and CEO at Appetizer Mobile who lets us know what inspired the publisher’s new game, “dïm.” Inspired by games the likes of “Temple Run” and “Subway Surfers,” it’s a mobile game that anyone can just jump right into.

Review Fix: What games inspired this one?

Jordan Edelson: Infinite runners such as Temple Run, Subway Surfer, and other pioneers in the infinite game genre definitely gave us some great starting points for infinite generation of the maze in the game.

Review Fix: What do you play for fun when you’re not developing?

Edelson: When not developing, we love to play all kinds of games. In fact, we have a game night at the office every Thursday where we show each other our favorite games. Some examples of what we normally play are: Nidhog, Hidden in Plain Sight, Super Smash Bros., Rocket League and Air Wings.

Review Fix: What has development been like?

Edelson: Development for dïm was so much fun, partly because we had complete creative control over the final product. We all knew our roles in the project, and we carefully weighed each idea and feature to make sure that it would be a meaningful addition to the game.

Review Fix: With all the competition on the mobile market and in the indies now, how difficult was it for you guys to try and make something that stood out?

Edelson: Some people go into the development with the mentality of appealing to the masses at all costs. We took a different approach, and just asked ourselves “is it fun to play?” The creation of the app has been very much centered around that question, and we believe that the firm commitment to a fun game is what will make it shine.

Review Fix: Who do you think will enjoy this game the most?

Edelson: The great part about dïm is it’s universal appeal, in our opinion. We made classic and mode for competitive and casual players, and made the UI so simple that anyone can easily navigate and enjoy the experience.

Review Fix: Bottom line, why must someone play this game?

Edelson: Play dïm because it is a hand-crafted experience for those who enjoy puzzles, racing, beautiful aesthetics, and suspense.

Review Fix: How do you want this game to be remembered?

Edelson: We made this game as a timeless and unique puzzle app that gives people hours of fun, relaxing gameplay anywhere they go. We hope people will keep it on their devices for a long time to come and always try to beat their best score.

Review Fix: What are your goals for this game?

Edelson: We would love to see this app reach all kinds of people from around the world! The App Store/Play Store have afforded us an incredible opportunity to do what we love and share it with others, and we love hearing people’s feedback about their experience.

Review Fix: What’s next?

Edelson: We are constantly conceptualizing and developing innovative apps, and we hope to bring an even better app to players very soon! We are also working with new and exciting platforms like the Microsoft Hololens, tvOS (Apple TV), and virtual reality headsets.

Review Fix: Anything else you want to say?

Edelson: We would all like to say thanks so much for taking the time to read! I and our team really appreciate the opportunity to tell you more about us and our ambitions for dïm – and hope to see you on the leaderboards!
