Hellboy: Into the Silent Sea Preview: Can’t Be Messed Up

“Hellboy” has been on a lot of adventures and by now it seems like there is nothing else he can do. Unsurprisingly, Mignola has other ideas for him. Mignola has teamed up with Eisner Award-winning artist Gary Gianni and colorist Dave Stewart to create the new graphic novel “Hellboy: Into the Silent Sea.” A preview of this graphic shows that this story has what it takes to be a classic.

After the events of “The Island,” Hellboy is captured by the crew of a phantom ship who plan on selling him to the circus. There is also a mysterious lady onboard that the entire crew is afraid of and has some interest in Hellboy.

The preview pages do an excellent job of setting up the story. The idea of someone wanting to sell Hellboy to a circus is a funny concept has a lot of room for a great adventure. The mysterious lady is also an intriguing concept. Mignola and Gianni can do a lot with her and this preview makes you want to know a lot more about her and what she’ll do to Hellboy.

As for the art, what can be said, it’s “Hellboy.” It’s dark, scary looking and gives off an otherworldly vibe. There isn’t much that stands out here, even though the mysterious lady does look awesome meaning that whatever powers she has will look great when the reader sees them in action.

“Hellboy: Into the Silent Sea” looks like it’ll be a great “Hellboy” story. The concept is interesting; the new antagonist has a lot going for her and the art keeps the spirit of the “Hellboy” universe alive. There is little that can go wrong here, but readers still need to keep their fingers crossed for any “Hellboy” story nowadays.
