Review Fix Exclusive: Inside ‘Fruit Ninja: Frenzy Force’

Review Fix chats with Sam White: VP of Entertainment & Licensing (Halfbrick), who discusses “Fruit Ninja: Frenzy Force,” which is now available on YouTube Red. Based on the mega-hit Fruit Ninja video game series. Discussing the origin of the show and its goals, lets us know exactly why it’s another special show on YouTube Red.

Review Fix: How was this animated series born?

Sam White: The idea for the Fruit Ninja: Frenzy Force series was born after we asked ourselves what the ancient land of Fruitasia would be like 1000 years on from the Fruit Ninja Origins YouTube shorts we released in 2014. Those videos did extremely well on YouTube with around 40 million views to date. Enter ‘Peelville,’ that now sits on the site of the ancient Fruit Ninja dojo where four modern day kids, Seb Niya, Peng and Ralph discover the long lost art of Juice Jitsu in the dojo that is (conveniently) buried deep below Seb’s house!

Review Fix: Who do you think will enjoy this show the most?

White: We’re really proud of the series we’ve created and think there’s something for everybody. We definitely aimed to make a show that we (as adults – most of the time anyway) would like to watch ourselves or with our kids. We think families will really enjoy it!

Review Fix: How does it feel to be a part of YouTube Red?

White: It’s very exciting to be part of YouTube Red. We all see for ourselves how much time our own children spend watching YouTube and what an important platform it is. We are thrilled to bring something new and exclusive to YouTube Red because YouTube has always been an important platform to both Fruit Ninja and Halfbrick as a company.

Review Fix: What makes this show special?

White: Fruit Ninja as a concept has always been a completely silly and absurd concept, blending the seemingly deadly abilities of a ninja together with something as harmless and yummy as fruit. This show carries on that tradition with plenty of sticky, messy fruit-slicing action woven around stories involving some pretty wacky villains.

Review Fix: What’s next for you guys?

White: We are looking forward to hearing and reading what Fruit Ninja fans and new viewers think of the show, what they are enjoying the most and want to see more of.
