Producer Robert Rodriguez might have something here, but it might be a bit too early to tell.
In spite of the fact that the director of this film has big-screen flop-fest the likes of “Vacancy†and “Armored†under his belt and his name is Nimrod [Antal], this flick, judging by the trailer alone, looks intriguing to say the very least.
Even though “The Predator†franchise has been dead in the water for quite some time, combining elements of horror and action, with a likeable and attractive cast might be just what the doctor ordered this summer.
Well, that is after the entire country watches “Iron Man II†and gets blown away.
Nonetheless, at the very least, this retooling may be a breath of fresh air in the sequel-heavy waters of summer cinema.
Either that, or Hollywood has completely run out of ideas and even talented people such as Rodriguez have fallen victim to the bug of playing with pre-established characters.
While it’s hard to say how good this film is going to be, especially considering how talented the taskmasters in Hollywood are at making amazing trailers nowadays, with people like Laurence Fishburne and Adrien Brody on-board, the script had to be at least solid.
We’ll forget the fact that Topher “I ruined Spider-Man 3” Grace is in this movie for the time being.
Having a bunch of Earth’s best killers stuck on a planet with the Predators sounds like a pretty cool idea that puts a nice spin on the series. The way it gets pulled off eventually however may make it turn out completely different though. The waiting game begins.
