Review Fix Exclusive: Rico Davis Talks ‘Do U Wanna?’ And More

Review Fix chats with singer Rico Davis, who discusses the inspiration behind his new single, “Do U Wanna,” as well as sharing some of his goals for the future.

Review Fix: How did you get involved in music?

RD: Singing’s always been a special part of my life. I’m pretty sure I was singing before I was talking.

Review Fix: What makes “Do U Wanna” special?

RD: Most people will admit that there are lots of grey areas when it comes to romance and relationships. I’m not a fan of grey areas, hence the question “is it love? Or do u wanna f@ck?” It’s a valid question when you live in today’s society. Awareness is always healthy.

Review Fix: How was it written?

RD: A Tuesday afternoon, Summer 2016, three blunts, a dope beat and my writing partner/producer Q.V. It just came to us as we chatted about how hard it can be figuring out what women want.

Review Fix: What inspires you?

RD: Besides Life itself? ….sexuality, passion, spirituality, companionship, art, nature, …pretty much everything and anything can motivate me if I let it.

Review Fix: Who are your influences?

RD: Not so much “who” but “when”…I’m influenced by eras of music and human history. I love the 70s, 80s, and 90s. I guess coming out of the freaky raunchy disco era made people a lot more open minded and adventurous when it came to sex and creating music and art.

Review Fix: How do you want this period of your career to be remembered?

RD: However God intends for it to be remembered. I’m just focusing on doing me, one day at a time.

Review Fix: What do you think you have to do to be a star?

RD: In order to be a star today, you have to simply not give a f@ck about even being a star in the first place. Be yourself. I think we’ve all seen enough examples to know that being yourself should always be the end goal. The rest is an illusion.

Review Fix: What are your bucket list goals in music?

RD: I’m not sure I have an official bucket list lol. But I will say that if my work isn’t helping people to blow off steam, making them dance, or making them feel something…then I’m not doing my job.

Review Fix: How does “Do U Wanna” help you get there?

RD: Only time will tell, but I think questions about love and sex are always a dope conversation starter.

Review Fix: What’s next?

RD: What’s next is more music, touring, developing creative projects with my Young America Entertainment crew, and creating art with every breath I’m blessed to take.

Review Fix: Anything else you’d like to add?

RD: In the words of the late great Bernie Mac, “if people don’t like you for who you are, fuckem!”
