Hell’s Kitchen: Rookies VS Veterans Episode 4 Recap: Still Raw

It’s a brand-new episode of “Hell’s Kitchen: Rookies VS Veterans” as both teams experience hell freezing over and some big names dining in the chef’s tables. Just make sure to keep your eyes on the pigs.

This episode started with the chefs receiving jackets from the sous chefs and being told to go outside. Once there, they were greeted with a winter wonderland complete with snow and pine trees. What the chefs had to do was pair up and compete in a short downhill sled race. The team that had all four pairs reach the finish line won. This was a rather funny moment, especially seeing Kanae wipe out head first, giving Jose a nice view of her behind.

The Blue won that relay, giving them a full ten-second head start in the cooking part of this challenge: they had to make soup which was graded on a scale of one to three from three people. They were Ramsay, owner of “Jardinière” Traci Des Jardins and gold medal Olympic skater Brian Boitano (he wrote a cookbook called “What Would Brian Boitano Make.” Thank you, “South Park.”) The worst (three-star) soups were Roe’s pho Chris’s butternut squash soup and Bret’s tomato basil soup (he used canned tomatoes and tomato paste. As a veteran, Bret SHOULD have known that Ramsay hates canned food.)

To say the Red Team destroyed the Blue Team is an understatement with the final score being 51-41 Red. This Blue Team is garbage. With that, the Red’s reward was a day and night stay at “L’Horizon Hotel and Spa.” Kanae said, “my husband would kill me if I didn’t have a cover-up (on her bathing suit).” That is not a coverup, Kanae. That few pieces of string being held together by other strings doesn’t cover anything up.

The Blue had to clean up the snow and prep both kitchens. Trev had a ton of trouble poaching eggs. He overcooked way too many to count.

At dinner service, both teams still had tons of trouble getting anything right. There were also this season’s first chef’s tables. The Blue had actresses Cheryl Hines and Rachel Harris and the Red had filmmaker Morgan Spurlock.

In the Blue Bret, working tableside was taking a bit too long with his orders. At entrees, Kevin brought up two NY strips that were still cold in the middle. Later, Kevin would overcook and then undercook a lamb chop. Ramsay had to talk to the Blue Team in the pantry because of this. Obviously, these kinds of mistakes should not be made by these chefs. Kevin still brought up a raw lamb after that talk.
In the Red Gizzy, who was supposed to be doing tableside, was helping Ariel make flatbreads. Ramsay had to kick her out. At entrees, Ramsay pulled one of Motto’s pork chops out of the oven that was charcoal. Not burned, not overcooked, charcoal. That was a huge accomplishment and the first time this has happened on “Hell’s Kitchen.” You get a gold star, Red Team. Later, there were two NY strips with two wrong temperatures.
Both teams had to choose two people for elimination. The Blue nominated Kevin and Trev and the Red nominated Chris and Gizzy. Ramsay didn’t eliminate anyone but he did Trev and Kevin to go to the Red Team and Gizzy to go to the Blue. Kanae and Mia were also told to go to the Blue and Bret were told to go to the Red. “The experiment is over. With both teams not performing, I need to change the chemistry in both teams. It is now men VS women.” Ramsay said.
Well, there goes THAT idea. Now this season is just like any other season of “Hell’s Kitchen.” It’s a shame too since this episode showed that this season might be getting better. It might still get better, but the whole original concept is scrapped.
