Review Fix chats with U-FOES’ Anders Voldrønning (vocal) and Marcus Forsgren (Guitar), who discuss the band’s origin, creative process and goals for the future.
Review Fix: How did the band form?
Anders Voldrønning: All three of us used to play in a hardcore band called Silence the Foe together with four other people. Silence the Foe dissolved in 2006, and all the different member went off to do other projects. But the three of us really missed playing aggressive music together and in 2009 we started U-FOES. And yeah, the other guys from Silence the Foe have started other great bands such as Syndrom and Shevils. Worth checking out!

Review Fix: How did you get involved in music?

Voldrønning: We were kids and got our minds blown away first time we heard Nirvana. No return from there.
Review Fix: What’s your creative process like?
Marcus Forsgren: A few years back we were living together in a big house with a studio and rehearsal space in the basement. So we used to make songs together in between Super Nintendo sessions playing Mario Cart. Now a days it’s usually me who comes up with the riffs and we arrange it all together in the rehearsal space. Anders writes lyrics cause he have to. Perfect channel to get the hate out.
Review Fix: What inspires you?
Voldrønning: Things that piss us off and stupid people.
Review Fix: What makes this album special?

Forsgren: The dogma for the album was “no overdubs.†Through the whole album there is only one guitar playing, one drum kit and one vocal. We believe that is something not many other bands do these days with all the opportunities one have with digital recordings. And we held nothing back to make it sound desperate and kick ass.
Review Fix: What’s the standout track?
Voldrønning: Depends on who you ask. It’s seems like the audience is divided into people who like the fast songs on one side, and one who like the more sludgy songs on the other side. Anders favorite is “Blessed Are The Deafâ€, Marcus “Ice Queen†and Peters is “Lies Refined A Thousand Times.†But all of us believe that the best song is yet to come.
Review Fix: What’s on your musical bucket list?
Forsgren: Doing a world tour with Melvins and Nirvana as support. Hehe… We really love the Norwegian band Kvelertak and they are also pals of us so it would also be super nice to tour with them. We might be the best and worst support act…

Review Fix: How would you describe your sound to someone who has never heard you?

Voldrønning: The sound of someone locked in a cellar for years with no daylight desperate to get out.

Review Fix: How are your live shows different from your studio work?
Forsgren: There is not much difference really. At least performance wise. We don’t use white one piece jumpsuits every day.
Review Fix: What are your goals for the rest of 2018 and what’s next?
Voldrønning: Our goal is playing as many live shows as possible and start on the new album asap!
