There’s that scene in ‘Captain America: The Winter Soldier’ where Cap’s in an elevator. As the scene progresses he’s crowded to the back. He knows it’s a setup, especially when he spots a bead of sweat going down one of the Hydra agent’s face. A fight ensues, but this is the man with super soldier serum, he’s the one who “could do this all day.†Cap goes from beating down a significant amount of Hydra agents to jumping out of an elevator, only to escape spectacularly. It’s an amazing sequence. More importantly, you may ask yourself, what made them believe they could take down a man who survived being in suspended animation for 75 years and is a living legend? It may remind you of the first few pages of the latest issue of ‘Ninja-K.’
Colin King was born into wealth. Still, he honed his marital arts skills and became a master spy for MI-6. In doing so Colin has found out why he hasn’t been able to have a steady relationship or keep long lasting ties. It seems that the agency he worked for manipulated their special agents to the point where they had no alternative but to work for MI-6. His latest failed relationship with Amanda McKee (Livewire) has caused him to reevaluate what he’s doing with his life. Essentially, Colin is now hunted as an enemy of the country he’s unwittingly given so much up for. Returning to England on the surface level isn’t the smartest move, but Colin has things to clear up. The thing is unlike Hydra, the agents who are after Colin know how dangerous he is. They don’t stand a chance anyway.
Eventually Colin makes it to his target. Throughout his life he’s been a victim. After gathering his contingency plan, Colin in the final pages of the comic-book gives his former friend and handler an ultimatum. Amazingly enough this is the final issue of Ninja-K. However, as a major staple in the Valiant universe Colin King’s story will no doubt continue in other forms. After all his alliances have made him a loyal friend. He’s not one to judge, or blindly follow orders. His questioning of authority and mercenary-type ways will cause him to continue to pop up in unexpected places. With the release of ‘Livewire’ Colin may make an appearance there. At the end of this last issue there’s a sneak peek of Amanda McKee saving a group of people from an exploding plane. It’s possible she may need Colin’s help.
Overall, ‘Ninja-K’ has added on to the expansion of the Valiant universe and it’s possible that this is not the end of Colin King, but a moratorium towards a new beginning. Perhaps now they’ll be new enemies as well as future allies. There’s a preview entitled ‘Killers’ showing Ninjak as being disavowed. Whatever happens next Christos Gage has written a comic-book with a complex set of characters. It would also be an awesome move if they brought back Ninja-G.
