Review Fix chats with singer/songwriter Karine Hannah, who discusses her affinity for Barbara Streisand and her upcoming show at Feinstein’s/54 Below on January 25.

Review Fix: What makes you different?

Karine Hannah: Just being me makes me different. What makes me different is that I have my own sound and unique qualities to my vocal delivery.

Review Fix: How did you get involved in music?

Hannah: I was performing around the city where I grew up which is Montreal, where Celine Dion and her manager happened to hear me sing and then asked me to perform at their wedding. That’s what really started my musical career.

Review Fix: What’s your creative process like?

Hannah: If I’m not collaborating on original music, I really love finding great covers to record or perform live, and put a new twist on it.

Review Fix: What inspires you?

Hannah: I’m inspired by people that I care about when they are happy and in a good place. That motivates and energizes me to give my all.

Review Fix: Why do you think the work of Barbra Streisand still matters?

Hannah: Barbara Streisand’s music and films will always matter because she’s a legendary artist who is a once in a lifetime talent. Even if it’s not your favorite style of music, she’s undeniable and the songs she’s recorded are timeless.

Review Fix: What’s your standout track?

Hannah: I’m sure everyone has a different opinion, but I think it has to be “The Way We Were”

Review Fix: What makes this upcoming show at Feinstein’s/54 a special one?

Hannah: First is that all the proceeds are going to a cause that means so much to me and so many others “Autism Awareness” and the other reason is because it takes “balls” to sing Streisand live and it’s not an easy task. My mother who was my best friend was a huge Streisand fan and she passed away suddenly a few years ago. It was her biggest dream and wish for me to sing her music live.

Review Fix: How would you describe your sound to someone who has never heard you?

Hannah: My sound is hard to describe because its’not a “one note voice”, I have many textures and different sounds to my voice, My overall style is soulful, at times raspy, at times crystal clear with the vocal chops similar to Celine Dion.

Review Fix: How are your live shows different from your studio work?

Hannah: In the studio the vocals are perfectly recorded. Live shows are more human and raw, my personality, my heart and soul can be seen…I especially love to make people go through different emotions along with me. They laugh their asses off, they cry with me….

Review Fix: What are your goals for 2019?

Hannah: I want to continue to perform live, doing this show and other concept shows. I will record another full length album this year.

Review Fix: What’s next?

Hannah: Recording a new album, and touring.

Review Fix: Anything else you’d like to add?

Hannah: My tribute to Streisand will be at Feinsteins 54 below in NYC, on Friday, January 25th at 9pm.
