Review Fix chats with Keith Mosfet, who discusses the inspiration behind his new track. “Superficial Hypocrite,†as well as his creative process, origins in music and goals for the future.
Review Fix: How did you get involved in music?
Keith Mosfet: I started playing music when I was 8. My grandfather played bagpipes and gave me a few lessons the summer before he died. My older brother played bass in shitty punk bands in our home town which was an influence. But I think what really got me started playing guitar was after I saw the Arcade fire play in Brantford on one their first tours before they blew up. It was like watching one of the most exciting garage rock bands in history and this blew my little 12-year-old mind.
Review Fix: What makes you and this band unique?
Mosfet: I pull from many places. Old music and new. I also write music that directly is about me or how I am working out an issue with myself or life. I try to look at different types of music from many perspectives.
Review Fix: What are your goals in music?
Mosfet: I just want to put out music that speaks to people. Even in a sarcastic fashion or serious tone. I also just want to play interesting shows and live a life full of adventure.
Review Fix: How would you describe your sound to someone who has never heard you?
Mosfet: Anti-folk, Rock n’ Roll with a little bit of sad boy soul.
Review Fix: Why do all of the genres you incorporate in your tunes matter?
Mosfet: Because I am always listening to new music, changing perspective and changing as a person from that. The songs and the genres I am influenced by are just snippets of my life and feelings at that point in time.
Review Fix: How was Superficial Hypocrite written?
Mosfet: I think the idea started when I went to a birthday house party full of artists who thought quite highly of themselves. They’ve all done well for themselves in the music industry and I thought that was the kind of attitude you needed to have to be a successful musician. But I quickly learned how hollow they are. So I wrote a song making fun of myself, the instagram life style, traveling to take selfies in ridiculous places instead of just enjoying the moment, getting outraged by everything you see on the internet. Its just exhausting and doesn’t bring happiness to my life.
Review Fix: Who will enjoy this track the most?
Mosfet: Probably people who like British invasion music, Beck, and sarcasm.
Review Fix: What’s next?
Mosfet: Putting out a few more singles, then the album. Currently recording the follow up EP/ or album.
Review Fix: Anything else you’d like to add?
Mosfet: I hope you all have a great day and take care of one another.
