Review Fix Exclusive: DayLeaf Talks Goals, Origin And More

Review Fix chats with DayLeaf’s Matt and Joe Costello to find out about their origin in music, goals for 2020 and more.

Review Fix: How did you get involved in music?

Joe: Since an early age, both of us have been jamming together, just for fun really. It’s never been something we’ve really put too much thought into.

Review Fix: What’s your creative process like?

Matt: It’s kind of a mess of a few different methods. What tends to happen is that we start with a fixed feel or vibe we want the piece to head towards (often coming from a riff or melody from guitar or a groove on drums) and then sort of react to idea as we work. The idea is just to explore as many directions as we come up with and to become more critical of them later on. Just being open to ideas, however random or seemingly incompatible it is.

Review Fix: What inspires you?

Joe: Listening to different different genres and seeing what ideas and be applied in different musical settings.

Review Fix: What does music mean to you?

Matt: A platform to create something that can be anything you want it be.

Review Fix: How would you describe your sound to someone who has never heard you?

Joe: Groove driven sounds, looking to less common styles of music to make a form of alternative rock with a twist.

Review Fix: How are your live shows different from your studio work?

Matt: At the moment we are more of a studio band- we aim to play live in the future though when we expand our catalogue.

Review Fix: What inspired your latest single?

Joe: We wanted to streamline some of our more left field work, whilst still managing to maintain some of that energy.

Review Fix: What are your goals for the rest of 2020?

Matt: To finish an album and grow our audience.

Review Fix: What’s next?

Joe: New music!
