Review Fix chats with guitarist Mike Milan Dedic, who discusses his origin in music and new track, Run.
Review Fix: How did you get involved in music?
MMD: I’ve been asked many times over the years who were my influences as a guitar player and the likes of Van Halen, Uli Jon Roth, Rhodes & Malmsteen are always said. However, the original credit has to go to KISS. They were the first rock band that captured my imagination and it didn’t take long for me becoming a super fan of them. Ace Frehely no doubt was my first guitar idol, but it was the whole group’s theatrics that really did it for me. I mean, what 8 year old kid back then wouldn’t be amazed by their stage show and presentation. They were unlike any other band. That was all confirmed for me when I saw them in Toronto back in 1979. What a concert! Ya!!!!
Review Fix: What’s your creative process like?
MMD: I really don’t follow any specific method to writing or anything. I do however
try and start with a melody or riff and build the song out from there. For me it seems to work best that way.
Review Fix: What inspires you?
MMD: Experiences! I mean, just the everyday things. Sometimes the simplist of visits to places or encounters with people trigger ideas that just present themselves.
Review Fix: What does music mean to you?
MMD: It has always been the same meaning for me from the start….An Outlet! A place that I could escape to. As I progressed as a musician, it became a canvas for being expressive too. Growing up is never easy for anyone
so music certainly helped me keep out of trouble. (for the most part! LOL!)
Review Fix: How would you describe your sound to someone who has never heard you?
MMD: I think it is difficult for any guitar player to define their sound to others.
People hear things and interpret music in different ways. As such, instead of referring to others guitar players, I prefer just being described as a ‘Guitar Rock Instrumentalist’.
Review Fix: How are your live shows different from your studio work?
MMD: Wow. It has been a very long time since I’ve set foot on a stage. (TOO LONG!)
As I’ve essentially been involved in studio work in recent years, I miss that spontaneous
vibe that only being on stage or a great jam can give you. In the studio, everything kinda has to be precise and on point whereas on stage, I can just let loose!!!!
Review Fix: What inspired your latest single?
MMD: Run. It is a stand alone single released May 12, 2020
Additional musical contributions from:
Jeff Vidov – Keyboards
Brian Latimer – Drums
As an instrumental piece, it is another song of mine inspired by escapism. I hope this song gives the listener a carefree outlet from the everyday rigor of things. With no lyrics, the listener can interprete the song as they want to.
