Review Fix Exclusive: Emerra’s Fabian Horn Talks ‘Meeko’ And More

Review Fix chats with Emerra’s Fabian Horn who discusses the band’s origin, standout work and goals post-COVID.

Review Fix: How did the project start?

Fabian Horn: We all had different bands before Emerra, but wanted to try something entirely new together. We formed a rock band as a side project. It all progressed over the years to become a whole other thing. We were drawn back to a heavier sound and more progressive elements within those song structures. That soft rock just didn’t suit us in the end.

Review Fix: What’s your creative process like?

Horn: It’s mostly Max (our drummer) and me hanging out together. We create a lot of demos. Most of them aren’t ever finished, because we like to work on the best ideas most of the times.

Until now it always has been an instrumental draft first followed by singing and lyrics afterwards.

Maybe we will spice things up in the future though, who knows.

Review Fix: What’s your standout song? How was it written?

Horn: I could imagine, that this differs between all of us. For me, our standout song is Meeko. It’s the only song that has screaming in it so far. There’s a Jazzy part later in the song, and apart from the intro the song doesn’t have to much synthesizers like the other songs do.

Review Fix: What are your goals for 2020?

Horn: Finishing our second EP and promoting our current portfolio to the music fans out there. We’d love to reach people all over the world and connect with enthusiasts of the style of music we do and love.

Review Fix: How do you want your music to affect people?

Horn: We see ourselves as entertainers. People just want to be entertained, and we want to offer exactly that. Although we are certain, that our music only affects a special kind of heavy music fans.

Review Fix: What’s next?

Horn: Lots of days in the studio, finishing these songs and being creative with them as much as we can.

Also, after this Covid thing is over, we want to really embrace live shows. We miss those so much, and we’re bummed, that we could only make a single show happen between our album release and the start of quarantine.
