Review Fix chats with Rafa d Villegas, the bassist of the Freedivers, who details the band’s origin and goals.
Review Fix: How did the project start?
Rafa d Villegas: The project started at the end of 2019, it had some riffs and some lyrics, but I needed someone who was interested in the project and would work with me to shape it all. I met Sergi, he liked the project and we started working together. Later Xabi joined us and then we were complete.
Review Fix: What’s your creative process like?
Villegas: Two of us are always involved in our creative process. all the songs are written and composed by Sergi and me. When one of us has an idea, we work together until we get the song.
Review Fix: What’s your standout song? How was written
Villegas: It’s a difficult answer, because we really like all of our songs, but I could say it’s Walking Upside Down. This was a song that was already ready, it only remained to be recorded. And then came the situation of the global pandemic, this affected us all a lot, and made us rethink about many things. So Sergi, he called me and said, I have new lyrics for the song, and I want you to listen to it. It seemed great to me, it reflected everything we were feeling. And I said, this is the final letter.
Review Fix: What are you goals for 2020?
Villegas: Our goals for 2020 are to finish a 6 song EP that we are working on.
Review Fix: How do you want your music to affect people?
Villegas: We would very much like to connect with people, and give them a different vision of things through our songs. We tell personal stories but we are like many others, so our stories can be the same stories of many people.
Review Fix: What’s next?
Villegas: We are thinking of releasing a song on acoustics, but that will be seen. The current situation has changed many of our plans and we are waiting to see what happens.
