Review Fix Exclusive: SC.Undercover Talks ‘Sex Me Like U Want 2’

Review Fix chats with singer/songwriter SC.Undercover, who discusses his origin in music and goals for 2021.

About SC.Undercover:

Walsall, UK born artist SC.Undercover started creating music as a way of escapism from the darker periods of his early life. The mysterious crossover artist blends influences of indie, dark pop and R&B, offering something distinctly unique and relatable in today’s industry. 

His latest single “Sex Me Like U Want 2” takes a slightly different approach to his previous work. Delving into the pop R&B realm, the artist explores a sound and style that has been playing on his mind. Reminiscent of George Michael meets Justin Timberlake, the song starts off with wild vocals showcasing an unreal range and a bubbly beat full of life, colour and total fun. The flamboyant and confident song changes to pulses of organ/synth toned chords, with emotive vocals totally contrasting the first half of the song. The track narrates the reality that once the party is over and the sober feelings come rushing back in, you may be sat with the past and emotions you hide when you’re out having fun. It’s honest and relatable; sometimes our outer shell protects us from other aspects of our life and that everyone has their own battles they dont always share. SCU shares, “I think you find that a lot of that in this business a lot of us are introverted and have a lot of insecurities including me and our art is our way of being who we want to be”. 

Review Fix: How did you get involved in music?

SC.Undercover: Well I just really got involved in writing first, as it distracted me from a lot of negativity in my earlier life, then I went into the studio and never stopped since really.

Review Fix: What’s your creative process like?

SC.Undercover: It varies, sometimes I get ideas for lyrics at the most unexpected times which I write down. Or if I’m feeling a certain way I’ll stay up and write for hours and finish things up in the studio once I have a melody in place. 

Review Fix: What inspires you?

SC.Undercover: There’s so many things to be honest with you. A lot of experiences in my life are probably the biggest one.

Review Fix: What does music mean to you?

SC.Undercover: Well it’s my only form of expression where I can be whoever I want to be and express however I feel through my art and that means a lot to me because it gives me confidence in myself and a purpose.

Review Fix: How would you describe your sound to someone who has never heard you?

SC.Undercover: Different I can’t really pinpoint it.

Review Fix: How are your live shows different from your studio work?

SC.Undercover: Well of course when there’s an audience it’s not just about me anymore so I have a job to give people a good show, so I try to engage and give my all at them.

Review Fix: What inspired your latest single?

SC.Undercover: It was a character in my head actually mixed with the reality of life. The flamboyant title and lyrics were part of this character that is just free and eccentric, almost comical, then the outro is a total contrast and back to the reality of life and all it’s hurdles.

Review Fix: What are your goals for 2021? 

SC.Undercover: I really don’t know, things are tough right now for many people and things can change in an instant I just don’t know anymore.

Review Fix: What’s next?

SC.Undercover: Just going to see how things play out, I’m in a strange place right now, so I just focus on a day at a time.
