Review Fix chats with Blitz Union’s Mark Blitz, who discusses the band’s origin, creative process and goals for the rest of 2021.
Review Fix: How did the project start?
Mark Blitz: The history of Blitz Union, how we got to know each other, goes way back to the past.
Initially, it was not music at all what put us together. Our paths crossed because of our common
“research-obsession†of a mysterious entity that we inherited from our parents.
And this “research†was later on the main impulse to found the band Blitz Union. We think that music/art in general is an ideal way to express even the most crazy things. And that is exactly our case (Laughter).
Review Fix: What’s your creative process like?
Blitz: I usually bring some lyric ideas with a very simple instrumental. If everyone likes it, we do the general arrangements, concept of the song together. Once the main structure of the song is done and agreed, Schtorm (bassist, producer) starts to work on the production.
In regards to the topics of our songs and inspiration itself – It is directly connected to the overall story of Blitz Union. As mentioned in my first answer, there is a background “research†of a mysterious entity (let’s call it/him “Mr.Blitz†for now) which was actually the main reason for Blitz Union’s foundation. There were a lot of unusual events which happened to me which led to some kind of communication with this force. We are still learning about what it means and going to reveal how those events influenced our music, our topics soon. There will be a lot to be found out by fans around the Union and our story which we can’t wait to start sharing.
Review Fix: What’s your standout song? How was it written?
Blitz: I would ask the audience, fans of our Union to advise on this one as I have a special and specific relationship with each and one of our songs. I take them as my children – although each is a little different, you love them all the same, you know. But based on the feedback, it seems the top favorite one so far is “Plasticâ€.
Review Fix: What are your goals for 2021?
Blitz: Since it seems there won’t be many live shows held this year, we have one big goal/challenge – We would like to release our very first, debut, full-length album this fall already. Fingers crossed we’ll be able to make it.
Review Fix: How do you want your music to affect people?
Blitz: There is no specific intention I think – Let them hear in it what they need to hear at a given moment. That’s my only wish. You can never plan in advance how the listener will interpret the song. That’s what I love about doing the music – the various feedback which you received – sometimes it is very interesting and exciting what can be found in your music.
Review Fix: What’s next?
Blitz: Since we would love to release the debut album this year – record, record and record! (Laughter). But also preparing some exciting stuff for followers of our Union that will be launched together with the album. There is a lot of work ahead of us, but I believe it will be worthwhile!
