Dirty Harry

dexter_wall_03_1280x1024When a family member is almost killed, the first thing that comes to mind is revenge.

It can either be the right or wrong thing to do, but for Dexter Morgan (Michael C. Hall), it is his only option. The Trinity Killer has struck, and now, with the death of Agent Lundy and Deborah almost losing her life, this episode of “Dexter,” entitled “Dirty Harry,” is like a start to an engine that is ready to propel the rest of this season to roar.

“Dirty Harry” begins with Dexter running to the aid of his sister by trying to battle the cops in getting through the yellow tape. When Bautista says that Deborah will live, Dexter has a sense of relief, admitting that he would’ve been lost without his sister.

The Trinity Killer (John Lithgow) is not the only thing that Dexter has on his mind, though – his marriage is taking a slight tilt. Rita (Julie Benz) discovers that Dexter did not sell his apartment, even though he told her he did.

Deborah (Jennifer Carpenter) is depressed, and is blaming herself for Lundy’s death. She wants to keep the pain inside by not taking her medication and by breaking up with Anton, telling him that she had slept with Lundy. An intriguing scene occurs when Dexter meets with Deborah while she breaks down in tears and explains to him how and why she is broken. The way Dexter goes along with Deborah’s sensational acting will have chills running down viewers’ spines, as it is the best-acted scene throughout this whole series, which can even be considered for an Emmy.

Bautista and Laguerta’s relationship has gone public, and with it being out in the open, Capt. Tom Matthews (Geoffrey Pierson) decides to give the order to Laguerta requesting that Bautista be transferred to another department.

It seems that Laguerta should have let things remain private, but with the feud that both she and Capt. Matthews have been going through in past seasons, it does not come as a shock that he will still do anything to get her do things against her will.

Dexter is still on the hunt for the Trinity Killer: He goes through Lundy’s old tapes on his recorder, and finally discovers the recording of the encounter that Lundy had with the Trinity Killer in the past episode. His description of the Trinity Killer was a step closer for Dexter in finding him.

Dexter finally discovers where the Trinity Killer will strike next, and finding him in a hotel lobby, killing a man who works there, Dexter finally saw the man himself, who almost killed his sister.

As the Trinity Killer leaves, Dexter follows him in an intense climax. The Trinity Killer reaches his destination and Dexter is right behind him with a needle in his hand ready to make his hunt, and suddenly an interesting discovery is made which leaves Dexter’s jaw dropping.

The Trinity Killer’s destination is his home, where he has a wife and kids. Dexter is left in shock, because he realizes that Trinity is just like him.

Family is forever, even though your secrets remain with you eternally, without anyone ever knowing.

“Dirty Harry” was an interesting episode, given the fact that a new layer has been discovered and the audience has been given a look at who the Trinity Killer really is. The next episode should bring more suspense and clues about the mass murderer. Dexter will certainly have his hands full, both at home and on the road, as his hunt continues.
