A Shocking Climax on ‘Dexter’

dexter_wall_03_1280x1024The finale that “Dexter” fans have been waiting for has arrived, and shock is what comes to mind when it all ends.

The season finale, entitled “The Getaway,” is an episode that will leave you on the edge of your seat from beginning to end. All the loose ends will be tied up, like the ones concerning Debra (Jennifer Carpenter), Dexter’s (Michael C. Hall) relationship to Laura Moser, his biological mother, and his brother, the Ice Truck Killer, from way back in season one.

“The Getaway” picks up from the last episode, where Dexter and Arthur are face to face at the police station. After Arthur leaves, there is an intense car chase in which Dexter tails him and finds out where Trinity is headed. Dexter finally gets to Trinity with his signature setup of the needle to the neck, but of course, there is always something that seems to go wrong and disturbs the process.

Debra finally knows the truth about Dexter and his brother being the Ice Truck Killer. When she tells Dexter about it, he pulls off a great acting job, making her believe that he is shocked about what he has heard. Meanwhile, Dexter is still on the hunt for Trinity. After getting the job done and finally slaying the beast in a unique fashion, the show’s climax will shock not just fans, but Dexter himself, as he realizes that his life will change forever. Season four of “Dexter” will be known as having one of the most heart-dropping and unforgettable finales to date.

Season four had fantastic performances leading up to this shocking finale. An important aspect to realize is how challenging it was for Dexter to catch Trinity (John Lithgow), probably because of how similar they were. The ups and downs between these two characters have been an epic treat for the viewers. Carpenter deserves recognition for her performance this season, especially for her scenes with Hall.

With the finale over, fans will have to wait awhile to find out what will happen next. We now know that Dexter will be a person with a scarred soul, and a person who will never be the same again. Angst is what the fans will endure until the next time they see Dexter Morgan again.

I grew up in Bensonhurst Brooklyn, the same neighborhood many of the best mafia films of our day were based on, idolizing guys like Robert Deniro, Martin Scorsese and Al Pacino. I'm also a big sports fan and follow the New York Yankees immensely.
