Thoughts on ‘Machete’

Like “The Expendables,” Robert Rodriguez has made a film in “Machete” with a star-studded cast such as Danny Trejo, Jessica Alba, Robert DeNiro, Michelle Rodriquez, Cheech Marin, Jeff Fahey, Don Johnson, Steven Segal, and unfortunately, Lindsay Lohan.

But one bad actor out of the eight shouldn’t spoil your mood in what looks like a unique action thriller from Rodriguez.

“Machete” (Danny Trejo) is a renegade and former “Mexican Federale,” who roams the cities, towns, and streets of Texas looking for work after a shakedown from a drug lord called Torrez (Steven Segal). From the way it looks, this film will have nonstop action with a terrific cast playing different roles.

An interesting aspect that this film seems to bring in is its reminiscent feel and look to ‘From Dusk Till Dawn,’ which was another classic film directed by Robert Rodriguez.

Let’s just hope “Machete” can deliver on the excitement seen in the trailer.

Only time will tell.

At the site, I'm a music, television and graphic novel kind of guy and that's what I'll be writing for the most part. Expect some book and music reviews as well though [insert demon horns here]. I grew up in Bensonhurst Brooklyn, the same neighborhood many of the best mafia films of our day were based on, idolizing guys like Robert Deniro, Martin Scorsese and Al Pacino. I'm also a big sports fan and follow the New York Yankees immensely.
