True Blood, Back with the Bloodshed

“Hitting the Ground,” the newest episode of HBO’s hit series True Blood, finally brought back the bloodshed it’s been lacking all season. Although the show has grown a tad bit cheesy, looking more like a soup opera with fangs than the sci-fi show that used to break all the rules, it seems that every week brings a better episode.

What this means is that “Hitting the Ground” was the best episode this season, and if it continues down the same path next week’s will be even better.

“Hitting the Ground” finally brought on the death of Bill’s maker Lorena, who’s foiled many plans for the Bon Temp heroes in the past seasons.

But what made this episode great was that questions were starting to be answered regarding the show’s main character, Sookie, who seems to have been ignored all season. She slipped into a coma due to Bill’s uncontrollable blood fetish, bringing her into one of those dramatic TV show hospitals where the ER seems to be a mile long hallway where nurses and doctors are pushing IVs, and pumping meds. While in a coma, Sookie dreamt of walking through a garden paradise, filled with naked people running around and emerging from a small pond. The dream was a total trip, but it was great because it brought the show to back to the feel it had in the first season, when Jason Stackhouse got high on V.

Besides the long-awaited progression of the Sookie storyline, this episode raised more questions than answers, as it normally does. The whole werewolf, Vampire King, and under-the-table V distribution is still cloudy, and hopefully it’ll all make sense by the end of the season. But as of right now, even the weekly True Blood viewer will be lost as to what’s going on.

What can be said is that this episode was a good one, and the show continues to never fail. Although it might miss some of the excitement the second season had right from the start, the important thing is that the show is progressing and keeping itself interesting. Expect the answers to keep coming, and new questions to continue being raised until the final episode of the season that, like the past two season finales, will most likely blow you away.
