Season Three of True Blood: Good, But Not Great

Despite the abysmal finale for the third season of HBOs True Blood, it was, overall, a good season. Many fans can agree that it didn’t play out the way it was expected to, but regardless, the third season was just as entertaining as the previous two.

To take a look back, Sookie is now part Fairy, which explains her powers, and her and Bill “broke up” yet again. Lafayette finally found a lover in the nurse that takes care of his schizophrenic mother, who turned out to be a witch. Tara had a total breakdown after dating a vampire who turned out to be a sadist, and Sam reverted back to his angry past. Jason fell in love with a drug dealer’s daughter, which introduced a new breed of the paranormal when she revealed that she is a “were-panther,” which is essentially like a werewolf except instead of becoming a wolf she becomes a panther.

Despite the finale, this season may have setup a fantastic fourth season, revealing more about the were-panthers and witches divulged this past summer. The finale ended with Russell being cemented into a building where he is to be lost with his emotions and evil conscious for 100 years. Perhaps that was just a prelude to his escape in which he becomes a scarier, more vengeful antagonist in the fourth season.

True Blood hasn’t failed yet.

Next summer, although it seems light-years away, could definitely redeem itself for the poor ending to this past season. The fans of the series should stay hopeful and optimistic. Hopefully, with the seeds that have been sown this past season, next summer will be a good one, and despite a few bumps on the road, we will know once again that True Blood never fails.
