A Prequel Before the Big-Screen Sequel

The long-awaited sequel to Disney’s cult hit “Tron” is scheduled to hit theaters in mid-December, but the graphic novel to get you reacquainted with its magical world is already out.

And it’s pretty damn good.

Bursting with color and intrigue, “Tron: Betrayal” is a graphic novel worth checking out. The artistry by Andie Tong and Jeff Matsuda is intense at times and does a great job of capturing all of the action. Between the vibrant splash pages and bevy of emotion conveyed in the art, this book is a winner before you even begin to read it. .

You’d definitely expect anything produced by Disney to be visual stunning and here the duo of Tong and Matsuda doesn’t disappoint.

The writing by Jai Nitz is also stellar and runs the entire gamut of emotion. The difference between the two worlds presented here, how they look, speak and live is what essentially drives this tale. All of the characters in this story have a purpose and the dialogue is crafted extremely well, helping give the book the feel of novel at times. At the same time, it’s easily approachable and suited perfectly for the comic book medium.

With this trio working so fluidly together as well, this is a tale that anyone, regardless of their affinity for the film will enjoy.

It’s a shame that many may pass on the book due to the upcoming movie tie-in, especially considering the fact that this is a completely original work, fueled by both a talented writer and artist.
