ONTARIO BAND’S SELF-TITLED DEBUT ALBUM ON MERCURY RECORDS, CO-PRODUCED BY CHAD KROEGER OF NICKELBACK
One month of U.S. tour dates begin November 18th, opening for Hinder
(– New York, NY) Canadian band My Darkest Days had a dream, that their debut single on Mercury Records, “Porn Star Dancing,†would be played in stripper clubs across North America and go to #1. The dream comes true this week, as “Porn Star Dancing†rises to #1 on the Active Rock chart with a radio audience of 8 million and digital sales topping 200,000 copies.
“Porn Star Dancing†is the lead track from MY DARKEST DAYS, the self-titled debut album from the Ontario-based band. Next week, they head out on a month of shows opening for Oklahoma City’s Hinder. Dates begin November 18th at Austin’s Saloon in LibertyÂville, Illinois, and wrap up December 18th at the Diamond Ballroom in Hinder’s hometown. (Please see complete itinerary below.) This is the first major tour for MDD since their August-September U.S. dates with Sick Puppies (and later Hinder and Godsmack) in support of the September 21st release of MY DARKEST DAYS.
A tribute to hard-working strippers everywhere, “Porn Star Dancing†was co-produced in Vancouver by Chad Kroeger of Nickelback, who signed My Darkest Days to his production company, Mountainview Records. Adding to the excitement, “Porn Star Dancing†is making the rounds in two different versions, both featuring cameo appearances by Kroeger: a rock version with guitarist Zakk Wylde, and a hip-hop rap mix featuring Def Jam labelmate Ludacris. “Luda totally killed it,†says MDD guitarist and lead singer Matt Walst. “We sent the song to him, he dug the track, and his rhymes are just awesome.â€
My Darkest Days – Matt Walst (vocals, rhythm guitars), Brendan McMillan (bass, backing vocals), Doug Oliver (drums, backing vocals), Sal Coz Costa (lead guitar, backing vocals) – built a strong Canadian after tours with Theory Of A Deadman, Papa Roach and Three Days Grace, whose bassist Brad Walst (Matt’s older brother) has always been a staunch supporter. In addition to “Porn Star Dancing,†other album highlights include “Come Undone†(country twang with sassy vocals from another labelmate, Jessie James); the autobiographical tales “Every Lie†and “Like Nobody Elseâ€; “Fucked Up Situation†(adding some small town S&M adultery to the mix); the X Files-inspired “World Belongs to Meâ€; and the album’s closing, flick-your-cell phone arena-rock anthem, “Without You.â€
