(New York, NY) Mercury Records group Parachute glides into the new year with a brand new single, “Something To Believe In,†from their upcoming second album, THE WAY IT WAS (due April 12th ), and a fresh round of U.S. tour dates with Plain White T’s and Miggs on the Wonders Of The Younger tour, opening January 27th at Turner Hall Ballroom in Milwaukee, and wrapping up at the House Of Blues in Chicago on February 28th. (Please see complete itinerary below.)
In addition to “Something To Believe In†– which was played during this year’s Rose Bowl football classic and has become an ESPN staple – THE WAY IT WAS is also expected to include a number of songs that Parachute has introduced at recent shows, among them “Break My Heart For Me,†“Halfway,†“Square One,†“The Way It Was,†“What I Know,†and “White Dress.†Another track, “Kiss Me Slowly,†was written with Grammy winners Lady Antebellum. THE WAY IT WAS was produced by John Fields, whose credits include Switchfoot, the Goo Goo Dolls, P!nk, and Paper Tongues.
THE WAY IT WAS follows up Parachute’s Losing Sleep, which scored a #1 iTunes album debut when it was released in May 2009. The album featured the Top 15 Hot AC hit “She Is Love.†Parachute – Will Anderson (guitars, piano, lead vocals), Kit French (saxophone, keyÂboards, vocals), Alex Hargrave (bass), Johnny Stubblefield (drums), and Nate McFarland (lead guitar, vocals) – enjoyed a breakout year starting with their live performance of “She Is Love†at the annual New Year’s Eve celebration on Times Square in New York City with over 1 million people in attendance!
Parachute’s official Mercury label premiere took place at the Sundance Film Festival in February, and they opened their spring tour in March at South By Southwest (SXSW). “She Is Love†was subsequently heard on the CW’s 90210, the WB’s One Tree Hill, and the CBS Early Show in May, where it was performed live. In August, Losing Sleep was reissued on iTunes in a deluxe version adding the “She Is Love†video, rare B-sides, acoustic versions, and live tracks.
“Under Control,†issued the next month (September 2009), became one of the biggest-ever Single Of The Week releases to emerge from a #1 iTunes album. The Virginia-based band performed live on ABC’s Jimmy Kimmel Live and Good Morning America, in advance of their album. In October, Parachute joined Kelly Clarkson for a 9-week, 28-city North American tour through December. In January 2010, Parachute kicked off their own 3-week, 17-city headlining tour, in which every date involved a food drive. For more information go to www.WeAreParachute.com
