Remembering ‘One Man Star Wars’

Even though Charles Ross hasn’t been on tour with his one-man show in over a year, ReviewFix.com Editor-In-Chief Patrick Hickey Jr. shares his thoughts on the performance piece that many hardcore Star Wars fans call a must-see.

Often the things that make something great are the small ones. Those little tid-bits of wit, charisma and obscurity within something great are usually immortalized in pop culture and society because they enhance the source material in a way that only makes things greater.

Such has always been the case with anything having to do with the Star Wars universe, having legions of loyal fans that know every planet, species of aliens encountered in the films; thus reeling in the things no one would know, unless they were in love with the films.

At first glance, Charles Ross may look like someone that deserves no more attention than any passer-by on the streets of New York City during the course of the day. However, underneath his unassuming posterior lays the heart and soul of a true Star Wars fan, perhaps the biggest Star Wars fan of all time.

Ross’s one man show, “One Man Star Wars Trilogy” is a witty and imaginative reenacting of the first three Star Wars movies that any true Star Wars fan will find utterly hilarious. This is due in part to the fact that Ross compensates for his mediocre acting ability by bringing all of the obscurities in Star Wars to life with charisma and humor.

Being a one man show, Ross does all the voice acting in this performance. While his versions of Darth Vader and Yoda may be far from great, Ross nails the voices and mannerisms of R2-D2, C3P0, Luke Skywalker, General Ackbar, The Emperor and Jabba the Hutt, perfectly. His crotch grabbing rendition of Han Solo is also side-splittingly ridiculous, in the best way possible that is.

Despite the hilariousness of the performance, viewers attending Ross’s show that expect to receive a comprehensive and detailed reenactment of the first three Star Wars movies will be sadly disappointed.

Being only 90 minutes long, One Man Star Wars Trilogy serves best as a compliment to the first three films, bringing the best and brightest moments of the trilogy to life in a warm-hearted and fan friendly manner that will have hardcore Star Wars fans begging for seconds.
