Brooklyn, NY – The Block Institute has – for nearly 50 years – been dedicated to improving the quality of life for all people, primarily the developmentally disabled and their families.

Last year, they inaugurated The Brightest Star Awards, an opportunity to celebrate these individuals’ great strides in life and independence.

Among the judges panel is Mo’ Bounce from Z100 and Jenna Hammond, editor of Parent Guide (more to follow).

Pageant personalities, Keelie Sheridan (Miss Greater NYC), Jackie Holmes (Miss Manhattan), and Christina Moore (Miss Brooklyn) coach the 10 finalists (more to follow).

The event will be hosted by stage & screen actor, Jay Michaels.

The Block Institute’s Brightest Star Awards recognize the significant and extraordinary talents and achievements made by 10 individuals with developmental disabilities.

Their unique individuality, strides in attaining greater independence, successful inclusion into the community, and productivity in contributing to the world in which they live are spotlighted at the formal gala – this year on Saturday evening, January 29. Of these winners, the one who is determined to have made the most significant overall impact will be chosen as Block Institute’s Brightest Star and will serve as an inspiration and mentor to all who follow.

It is the goal of The Block Institute to extend the Brightest Star Awards’ reach beyond its own doors to other programs and organizations, so all individuals with special needs may have a chance to be The Brightest Star.
