Better But Not By Much

Aside from Orlando Jordan’s hilarious interaction with Mr. Anderson, there wasn’t much to “get into” this week on Impact.

The feud between Fortune and Immortal continues to heat up, but Ric Flair continues to squash Christopher Daniels on the mic every chance he gets. Why, for the second week in a row, would he insist that Daniels is a nobody that he’s never heard of? In the end, Flair’s words hurt himself as well as the company. This could be an excellent angle, if Flair allows the younger guys to hold their own with him. His days of being a superstar are over. He’s got to help these young guys get over. Or else TNA will go down in flames.

Rob Van Dam cut a good promo with Sting halfway through the show where he told the fans and Sting how much respect he has for him. Towards the end of it, he told Sting that times have changed. He’s not on the undercard anymore [obviously a reference to his time in WCW] and the Stinger better take him seriously. However, it’s TNA that doesn’t take either one of them seriously. A three-way match is often a device used when the two stars in the ring can’t draw a crowd. Currently, TNA doesn’t have many guys that fans would pay to see in the ring, hence why the main event at Lockdown is a three-way match.

Bottom line is that has to change soon.

With Mr. Anderson now feuding with Hogan and Immortal, that faction has needs some more muscle before they can be taken seriously. Damn do they miss a healthy Jeff Hardy. Right now, this company needs something to get them over that hump. The Fortune/Immortal angle could be it.

One thing’s for sure, it’s not going to be the Jeff Jarrett/Kurt Angle feud.

On a more positive note, TNA has a nice amount of wrestling on Impact this week. Once they are able to get some decent angles going, this amount of in-ring action could be the thing to get them some extra viewers. With the talent them have, the stories don’t have to be fantastic; they just have to make sense and be developed. The in-ring action will take care of the rest.

Matches:

Hernandez and Anarquia w/ Sarita and Rosita vs. Tommy Dreamer and Devon: Why would you drape a Mexican flag above the ring and keep it there the whole match? That was just the beginning of a sloppy match that ended after Anarquia used a steel chair behind the referees back. Matt Morgan came to the ring to save Dreamer from a border toss to the outside, but not even that could save this match.

When is Morgan going to get a real push? Why not have feud with Gunner for the TV title?

Samoa Joe vs. Murphy:
Joe quickly got the win via submission in a squash match that furthers the drama between Joe and the Pope.

Sarita and Rosita vs. Angelina Love and Velvet Skye:
This nonsense with Love being hypnotized by Winter has got to stop. It’s utterly horrible. This could have been a decent contest. In the end, it was nothing. Who’s writing this garbage? Skye continues to get better in the ring and rather than let her continue to get over with the fans, she’s involved in a joke angle such as this.

Robbie E and Max and Jeremy Buck w/Cookie vs. Brian Kendrick, Chris Sabin and Suicide [Daniels]: A quick match that showcased how talented all of these guys are. It was nice to see Sabin and Kendrick given an opportunity to wrestle. If only they were able to tell a real story with a decent angle. Then TNA could have something. There is a decent story being told between the two Buck brothers though. A 20-minute match between these two would be a lot of fun to watch.

Bully Ray w/ Immortal vs. Christopher Daniels w/ Fortune: Ray continues to prove himself as a capable singles wrestler and heel. This match had a good pace, with both wrestlers delivering a nice amount of offense. However, in typical TV-match fashion, Hogan got involved and punched Daniels with Ray’s chain.

Sting vs. Rob Van Dam w/ Mr. Anderson as guest referee:
You knew Anderson was out for himself here and after Sting hit the reverse DDT on RVD, Anderson then delivered his downward spiral finisher on the Stinger. RVD apparently didn’t see it and then ended the match with a five star frog splash. Anderson then took out RVD with the World title.
