VH1 Revives ‘Pop Up Video,’ Renews ‘Mob Wives’ and ‘Love & Hip Hop’

VH1’s fall lineup just got a whole lot more exciting.

After a 10-year break, VH1 will be reviving the hugely popular show Pop Up Video, according to a statement on the VH1 blog. The decision stems from constant requests from fans wanting a bit of 90s nostalgia in their lives.

“Pop Up Video has stood the test of time,” said VH1 president Tom Calderone in the statement, “ranking as one of the most iconic series in recent television history. For years, people have practically begged, ‘Please bring back Pop Up Video!’ It’s a show and format that now evokes nostalgia for VH1’s young adult audience.”

VH1 has already ordered 60 episodes of the show, which will feature updated graphics and current videos. The same “bubbles” filled with facts and information will still adorn the screen, and the videos will also appear on VH1.com as they air.

Also getting renewed for the fall season are Mob Wives and Love & Hip Hop. These two highly rated series will enter their second season. While Love & Hip Hop averages about 1 million viewers per episode, Mob Wives trumps that at an average of 1.3 million.

Perhaps the most exciting news about Pop Up Video’s return is that VH1 will once again be playing music videos during regular hours. Currently, the network only airs videos during their “Jump Start” block from 4 a.m. to around 11 a.m on most days.

The timeslot for the show’s revival has yet to be released. Meanwhile, the Mob Wives “Reunion Special” is set to air Sunday, July 10 at 8 p.m.

Pop Up Video, for those who don’t remember, was a show that played music videos and popped up various tidbits of information, often humorous bits, throughout the song.
