Who Saves The Doctor?

It all started with a little girl, Richard Nixon and an alien occupation of the ones called The Silence. It seems that these aliens have been manipulating the human race for centuries. But the intriguing part of it is The Doctor is 200 years older in the opening of Season 6 of Doctor Who only to de-age back to 907 in the same episode. What’s more Amy Pond is pregnant, or is she?

There are so many questions and an elusive amount of spoilers in season six, but you won’t know what they are until “A Man Goes to War.” In the meantime The Doctor and his band of companions (including River Song) embark on finding out who killed the Doctor and the worst times ahead for the most enigmatic of companions.

In yet another “perfect prison” (this time Dark Star alloy) The Doctor deals with the alien threat and puts the human race back on track once again. Still why does he allow himself to get killed by someone in a 1960’s spacesuit before he regenerates? And who is the little girl at the end of “Day of the Moon” who is in a constant state of regeneration – the same type that The Doctor experiences?

Through this 13-episode season Doctor Who encounters moral dilemmas with a spooky edge, and no Nixon isn’t nearly as frightening as “The Doctor’s Wife” or what occurs in “The Rebel Flesh.”

What makes this season so brilliant are the companions. Although everything seems to center around Amy (it appears that “she brings The Silence”), there is a mystery that includes everyone. As it unfolds throughout each episode Amy, her husband Rory and River meet with challenges that will change them forever. Being around The Doctor you tend to question all the things you thought were right. But the world becomes endless shades of charcoal when you travel with an alien in a space ship that’s bigger on the inside – with a library and a swimming pool.

Still trapped in all the gloom and questionable morality are light hearted moments. A sonic screwdriver isn’t exactly the weapon of choice in the heat of battle and the banter between The Doctor and his “wife” makes for some illuminating moments.

Written by Neil Gaiman (American Gods, Anansi Boys) “The Doctor’s Wife” reveals the most important aspect of the series. The Tardis (also known as Sexy), stolen when The Doctor was a mere 200 years old has always taken him “where he needed to go.” So all those random acts, and “accidentally” meeting companions were never coincidental. And since The Doctor cannot interfere with fixed points in time, the Tardis takes him to points in his life where he’s needed the most. The question now becomes is The Doctor Earth’s savior, or are his companions saving The Doctor?

As this series continues will The Doctor ultimately save himself? And will it be from the girl in the spacesuit? Stay tuned to find out just what “The only water in the forest is the river” means and just who the woman with the eye patch might be.
