Breaking Bad Coverage: Another Badass Episode

Breaking Bad, “Salud” – Original Air Date: September 18, 2011

With no exaggeration, this is one of the best Breaking Bad episodes yet! Jesse puts the Mexican chemists in their place, Walt, Jr., puts Walter to bed and Gus shows anyone who doubted him why he is the man.

Jesse Turned Chemist Geek

Gus brings Jesse to Mexico to show the cartel how to make the blue product. Of course, the chemists see through Jesse as not being a certifiable chemist and poke fun at him in Spanish. Jesse takes control and while reiterating Walter’s words, make the Mexicans clean the lab. Not only does the viewer cheer him on, but Mike and Gus, too, have a proud gleam in their eye. Scene ends with the Mexicans telling Jesse, “You’re staying. You belong to the cartel now.” (Or so they think…)

Walter Loves Those Tighty Whities

Poor Walt, Jr., is worried about Walter and visits his house, only to find him in his underwear with a bloody eye and bruised face. Even though Walter lies and said it happened while gambling, his tears and concerns are real which Walt, Jr., clearly admires as he is trying to comfort his father. It was such a tender moment between the two as Walt, Jr., tucks Walter into bed, and just as the viewer is feeling all cozy, Walter calls Walt, Jr., Jesse!

“Where did you think you got $610,000?”

In order to get Skyler’s ex-boss and lover out of trouble, she pretends his great aunt dies and has him receive a large sum of money. The idiot believes the story and, instead of paying the IRS, he buys a Mercedes. Typical. She confronts him, but we are unsure what’s to come of it.

One word keeps coming to mind: badass.

Gus buys the cartel expensive liquor so they can toast and celebrate their reunited friendship, although it is apparent how uncomfortable and angry he still is for them killing his partner. During this celebration Gus leaves and throws up… while the entire cartel start dropping like flies! Gus still ends up collapsing from the poison, and Mike gets shot as Jesse has to drive them home and to safety.

Numerous times in this episode I was jumping out of chair or trying to pick my jaw up before it hit the floor. Wow. Amazing.

Breaking Bad airs Sundays at 10 p.m. on AMC.
